Guest guest
I saw a new endocrinologist today since my gp does not want to do that part of my care. I started the insulin pump under a np with their group last August but she left to work for the pump company and then went to work with the Oneida Indian Tribal Clinic. I fired my other endo a couple of years ago because she had no idea about mito, did not want to learn and did not believe me that my blood sugar went up with physical exercise. Anyway, this new endo came to Green Bay in July, is originally from the ines, studied in Chicago and did a fellowship on Diabetes somewhere in the Boston area. We talked about my blood sugar going up with physical exercise, about needing small amounts of insulin all thru the night, without this my bs is around 250. With it it can range from 50 to 180. Triggers for high morning blood sugars are less than 6 hrs sleep, cold or allergy, hot, humid weather. Anyway, he admitted he does not know alot about mitochondrial diseases but has heard of them. He said that he is interested in learning more--he will look at the umdf website. He may also contact Dr Tick in Milwaukee who comes to Green Bay once a month. He is willing to learn, he was not a know it all at all. I only brought a few papers with me about the drugs that are mito no nos's and the recommended supplements. He was very interested in those. With any luck he may turn into a good mito doc--it may be awhile in the future but he asked alot of the same kind of quizzing questions about stuff like Dr Tick did and no other doctor has. To me it indicated that he has that type of mind that approaches a problem in a nontypical way. Such as how Dr Tick knew from only one visit and asking a few questions that she may have MELAS. I will see him again in 3 months and will see what my impression of him is then. He is in Green Bay which is still far for alot of you, 2 hrs from Milwaukee, but maybe in the future he will move. His name is Ferindad Casis. Janet Sample
