Guest guest
Hi , You were asking about the Magic 1-2-3 book, and I got it out of the library shortly after Jodi Z. mentioned it here on the list serve. The author, Dr Phelan, is going to be a speaker at the convention, and I was curious about his way of doing things. It is a WONDERFUL book! It is a behavior modification program that is VERY EASY to use! I am the mother of 4, and g-ma to 2, and I found his program a great help with the g-kids! Aidan is 3.5 and is almost 2.5 Aidan was one of the worst temper tantrum throwers I had ever seen. She would throw herself to the floor with such force, that I often thought her blood curdling screams were because she was in need of a cast, or at the very least stitches! (none of that was ever necessary, thank goodness! LOL) Since we tried the Magic 1-2-3 method, she has improved tremendously! Now we rarely get to 2, and her behavior pretty much falls in line. Her temper tantrums are short-lived, or non-existent most days. And, in my opinion, the best part of it all, is that I feel like I'm back in control. No more losing my temper, no more yelling, no more threatening to paddle her bottom. The book itself was an easy read, and gave some great examples, both of behaviors you want to quit, and behaviors you want to re-enforce. I still wouldn't say our house even a quiet, peaceful environment, but it is more often filled with laughter, and joy, than with temper tantrums and screams. Guest guest
Hi , It's me again! LOL Just wanted to say that you have described Aidan to a tee!!! She is always on the move, and headed generally in the direction of trouble! LOL I have two kids who have been diagnosed with ADHD, so genetically it's a possibility, but I like to think she just an active, inquisitive three-year old. We never medicated our kids until their ADHD was a problem in school.
