Guest guest
Foiled again! ACHK! I just checked the probiotic again so I could tell you the name and realized that its not legal. It had maltodextrin. So, will be ordering one from the on-line stores. But here is a typical day of eating. Breakfast: Homemade turkey/hamburger sausage - about 1/4 pound cooked deseeded apples/pears/or peaches - about 1/2 to 3/4 cup apple juice (Kedem) cut with water - about 8 oz total Snack: cooked deseeded apples/pears/peaches - 1/2 cup Lunch: Brisket cooked with legals (onion, garlic on top) - about 1/4 pound (cooked, frozen and thawed) Catsup - BTVC recipe broccoli, well steamed til soft - 3 spears Zuchini, well steamed till soft - 1/4 cup Snack: 1 or 2 of the following (often she eats until dinner is ready she's so hungry) cooked deseeded apples/pears/peaches - 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup " ice cream " made from very ripe banana and cherries pure'ed well ripe banana " ice cream " made from very well pure'ed nut milk (I have a Vitamix so there's no pieces left), honey, frontier flavoring (have backed off this, not sure if she is ready for nut milk yet. carrot chips oiled and baked 1/2 of pecan waffle (waffle, pecans, egg) She has typically not tolerated eggs, but she usually shows it the next BM and we've had this 2 times and she's been okay. Dinner: Chicken - 1/4 to 1/2 cup Carrots- 1/2 cup Squash - a couple bites Try for another veggie well cooked, usually, broccoli, zuchini, etc. Sometimes well cooked fruit. She has been very thirsty since started SCD and drinks legal juice cut water on and off all day as well as water. Before SCD, juice was a no no as it seemd to bottom out her blood sugar and make her cranky, but we've not noticed that at all now. Prior to yesterday the fruit all had honey and cinnamon on it. Now she is okay with no honey, since I told her it may be making her gassy and itchy. I admit we have tried some cookies and crackers I made with almond flour - probably too soon for us, so we've stopped those. She did go on a blueberry binge last weekend. I've pretty much allowed her food choices as long as they are healthy (and now SCD legal) and like the blueberry binge they pass (binge meaning all she wanted for snacks was blueberries). But maybe the blueberries were too soon. Didn't notice any big changes stool wise other than being dark from the blueberries. The wierdest thing has been that this weekend she started asking for illegals for the first time on SCD. And I don't mean, " I want waffles, etc. " I mean out of the clear blue she will say, " I want rice " " I want corn " " When will we have milk (rice milk) " " I want to have popcorn " . She's okay with it when I say " it will be a long time after our tummies heal before we can try them. " Also, realized early that her enzyme from our chiropractor was illegal, so I switched to 1/2 of a digest gold from enzymedica which I believe is legal, but I'm having the hardest time getting her to take it. I tried it and it does taste yucky in a bite of food. Are Houstons better? She has always been tiny so we are happy with the weight gain and feel that she is eating really well. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you in advance. Guest guest
Hi Colby, I just joined this list so I'm coming in on the middle of this conversation. Sounds like you're concerned about yeast? I can tell you for sure that honey feeds yeast, so it's good you've stopped putting honey on fruit. However, the amount of fruit your daughter is eating is ALOT if you're trying to control yeast! Also, my understanding is that carrots are very high in sugars and probably feed yeast. If I were in your shoes, I'd cut way, way, way back on the fruit. Then you'll have to add in other things to satisfy your daughter's big appetite. My own daughter snacks happily on meats, fish, soup, or cooked vegies, and serving these things with healthy oils helps satisfy her appetite. In other words, snacks are made of the same foods as meals. Fruit is limited to two or three tablespoons of mashed-up fruit (I mix her supplements into it) per day -- otherwise, her yeast revs up. In my daughter's early days on SCD, a " very favorite food " was what she called " fluffy soup " . I would stew chicken or turkey in a crockpot with 2 or 3 cups of water. I would peel and seed zucchini (yes, alot of " fuss and bother " but it reduces the gut-irritating fiber) and steam it. Then I would puree the zucchini in broth from the crockpot. Before serving, I would add a little oil (like almond oil). My daughter loved it! She was an incredibly picky eater, but I found that adding a little bitty bit of a new vegie (well steamed) to the " fluffy soup " got her used to the new taste and soon I could add large amounts of new vegies to the soup, or serve those new vegies plain separate from the soup, and she would eat them happily. " Fluffy soup " is also a good place to put some supplements, a raw egg yolk, cooked egg yolk, a little meat or fish, etc., etc. You could make a nice batch of fluffy soup in advance and have it available for snacks all day, if you want. We use Houston enzymes. My daughter will eat Zyme Prime straight from a spoon, also AFP Peptizyde. The AFP Peptizyde is very, very mild in flavor compared to the Peptizyde (which my daughter rejected!). Be sure you are getting the SCD-legal version of Houston enzymes. They used to have an illegal version of each one, too -- not sure whether they still have the illegal ones for sale, but best to specify that you want SCD legal! I hope this is helpful. Guest guest
How much juice do you think she's drinking in a day? Jody mom to -7 and -9 SCD 1/
Guest guest
It was probably about 20 ounces but today we backed it off to about 10 ounces (this is the measurement of just juice - although I cut it by 1/2 with water.) With the calories she seems to be needing and she is still consuming quite a bit of food for her (28 pounds) I just allowed her to have it until we started seeing the yeasty problem. Guest guest
Colby, 8-10oz might be okay, but 20 was definitely too much. I'd also really try to make sure that her fruit is cooked. Nothing raw, it's a lot more difficult to digest and could contribute to yeast if it's not being fully digested. Guest guest
I'd be glad to share some recipes but please give me a few days to post them. Very busy! Kayla
Guest guest
I have missed a lot of posts the last couple of days. So I am just getting this one. Thanks for the e-mails. We have backed off of the fruit quite a bit but need to still back off some. I too would like any recipes. The yeast was kind of a surprise for us. But it does say in the book, that it can show up when the bad guys start dieing. Thanks and I'll look for the recipes.
