Guest guest
Hi Kim (and all)-- We have pretty much tried the entire DAN protocol with . A little history--He was born with anal stenosis, which was undiagnosed until 2 months old, and nearly died of bowel blockage. We almost lost him again at 4 months, due to extreme bleeding out his anus, and no one knew why. We were medically evacuated out of Europe (military), and sent to Walter Army Medical Center. There, they said that he could not break down milk protein, or soy protein, or citric acid. He was getting these proteins from my breast milk. He was eventually taken off gluten (age 3.5) and corn (age 5), but we never saw improvement, even though he would just wig out if he got ahold of these things again. We gave him garlic--I baked it in to stuff--for the yeast, we did metal testing--and he was high in arsenic. The McCandless book says that ALA is the best chelator for arsenic, and we did that. He takes fish oil to the Vit A issues, we chelated some with the heavy-duty stuff, but proceeded with caution on that, b/c of the way he reacted. We did auditory integration training/OT/SLP, etc, and even did a round of secretin--again, nothing just jumped out as helping. We also buy organic food/natural cleaning products. This kid also suffered massive constipation and had been hospitalized many times for clean outs--and nothing we'd do helped. I eventually learned of a natural supplement that really worked for this issue, and he started taking it in October/November (he was 7.5 then). He started having bowel movements everyday--this is the supplement I mentioned that I've have to eventually wean him off of, b/c is has an illegal--we just can't go back to those problems cold turkey! It was then--when he was actually able to poop--that I decided to go back and re-read all the books I had on biomeds for autism. (We'd been to Drs. Kucera and Levinson--both have spoken at DAN conferences if I'm not mistaken) I e-mailed several authors of these books, and one called me and told me about this diet. Thinking we'd done all we could do--and having been under the care of DANs, I'd been out of the loop on what was new to the biomed world with diet stuff--I thought, " What more could we eliminate? " :-) I hope this helps--I guess I could've just said-- " we've left no stone unturned " Good luck in your detective work-- is about to turn 8, and I ALWAYS knew that the answer was out there, and that it would come witih gut healing. --mom to (and two more!) has mild autism/severe gastrointestinal dysfunction, which is getting less severe all the time... Guest guest
; Thanks so much for sharing 's story. Leave no stone unturned for sure! I really believe diet would help with a lot of medical conditions that are so rampant today. Hopefully mainstream medicing will embrace this simple concept in the near future! Good luck with your son - he's on his way to recovery from all of your hard work! Kim :-) To Kim/Glen--My son's updated condition--other biomeds we've tried Hi Kim (and all)-- We have pretty much tried the entire DAN protocol with .
