Guest guest
Dear Joey, and to all it may concern, Here it is what I have discovered so far about getting a Ph.D. in Health Psychology. At this time Walden University has a program but it is not APA approved program/ but is accredited . http://www.waldenu.edu/c/Schools/Schools_746.htm<about:blank>. I have checked local universities and they don't offer the degree in my city. In Colorado to get license as a psychologist this is what they are saying when you go to the Depart of Regulatory Agencies (the people in your state that will know what requirements you need to become licensed for practice. I am still waiting for a phone call back, but it looks like in my state that it may have to be a APA approved Ph.D....so I am still searching. Each state is different. Check yours. At this time I don't know if a " health psychologist " would need a license, especially if one was only going to write, or do research like I wanted to. Yet would also like to see clients......so this is when you need a license for insurance and stuff.....still looking into it. Here is a contact person at Walden University. This Ph.D they offer costs 50-55,000 when all is said and done. Have to take a minimum of 5 credits a quarter and half way through you get your Masters....yet again...word of warning....we may have problems getting our licensure to see clients if we go this route! This would not be good! Below is paste of contact, she doesn't know anything about state to state programs (and obviously promotes her school she works for...but at what cost to us?): Shirin Khosravian Enrollment Advisor School of Psychology Walden University 1001 Fleet Street Baltimore, land 21202 x 8393 Fax: Shirin.Khosravian@... Here is what Colorado Depart of Regulatory Agencies said on their web site ( I have cut and pasted it)...look into your state: Do applicants need to complete the education equivalency worksheet? A. If the applicant's doctoral degree was obtained from an APA (American Psychological Association) approved program, no. If the applicant's degree is from a non-APA approved program, the applicant must complete the educational worksheet and attach any supporting documentation (i.e., description/syllabi). At this time I don't know if Walden would work or not...I like Walden's Program for Health Psychology.....waiting for phone call from Colorado Licensing Specialist for Academic Requirements...would hate to get Ph.D. from Walden and find out that I didn't take the right classes! Sincerely, Antoinette Bunce (day 32 entire family SCDiet and healing from Celiac Disease, and other neurological problems related to a damage gut!) Re: Ph.D's/Doctorates Thank you all for the support...Joey (on the list) is wanting to do this too! BiG Dreams big hearts.....but is my husband...even though he has big dreams...it's me Antoinette! Looking into it will let you know (Joey) what I find out! I figure four to five years from now I will still be me..........but a little older and healthier!...why not have a Masters or Ph.D. to help Elaine's KIDS! What truly inspires me is Elaine...going back to school in her late forty's what a lady! Antoinette (day 31 entire family SCD)
