Guest guest
For information on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, please read the book _Breaking the Vicious Cycle_ by Elaine Gottschall and read the following websites: http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/knowledge_base/kb/green_tea.htm The SCD™ Knowledge Base Green Tea Originally Elaine wrote: Green tea has been associated in some studies with the onset of ulcerative colitis and is not allowed on SCD™. This may seem odd as the popular wisdom currently is that it has anti-inflammatory properties, but there are many things on SCD™ that are 'supposed' to be good for IBD, but which we avoid. Demulcents are also supposed to be good for IBD, but the polysaccharides of which most are composed are what exacerbate the bacterial overgrowth we're trying to control. For most of those who've come to SCD™, the prevailing wisdom about both mainstream and alternative treatments has failed them. So, while it may seem that green tea should be beneficial, it is nonetheless, not SCD™ compliant. However, after looking carefully at the study in question, she reversed her decision and writes: I feel rather certain that green tea is OK even tho it kept company with rice and bread [in the study]. But notice, " 7 or more cups per day. " I would allow green tea and limit it to 2 cups per day. You realize that I don't know, don't you? I have no hesitation when it comes to certain carbohydrates but these other things stump me so I try to be logical. Originally from the Long Island listserve. chamomile tea, do not think is it legal Ordinary black tea is legal but should be made weak. Instant tea,Ojibwa tea (Essiac), many herbal teas, teas made from bark etc are full of polysaccharides and are illegal. Peppermint and spearmint herb teas are legal, and you can make a tea from ginger which is also legal ________________________________________ Loving Care,Grammy Gay IBS-1930, IBD-1984, SURGERY-1988, CD-1994, SCD-1997, REMISSION-1998, NO-MEDS. Guest guest
Hi , I have some confusion about this too. I drink chamomile and it has been a lifesaver in terms of calming my tummy and helping me to sleep. I tend toward constipation so maybe the supposive laxative effect is lost on me. I use a high quality organic brand. I use other teas too like rasberry leaf, ginger, skullcap, etc. Some herbs hurt my tummy and others do not. my question would be, " if it doesn't hurt my tummy, am I okay to drink it? " I do not do caffienated teas. I also wonder if decaf teas have been chemically decaffienated and that may be a problem. any thoughts? gwen luca-3 scd 1 month wrote: i was reading on the websites about teas and it said that decaf teas can be harmful. Guest guest
The solvents used to extract the caffeine from caffeine containing leaves and beans are harmful, carcinogenic chemicals, and should be avoided by those sick and those wanting to stay well. Guest guest
I remember a post a long time ago--I think it may have been from Sheila--that she makes her own decaf tea by steeping a first cup and watering her plants with it and then steeping a second cup from the same tea bag. She said most of the caffeine comes out at the beginning of the steeping. , mom to
