own juice!

Thank for phone number! We have corn issues too! No wonder why I can't do

canned

pineapple...but can do the fresh! I never could figure this out! My God what

are we doing

to our world? When pineapple has corn in it, and salt has sugar in it? I am

sure I have

many, many more disappointments ahead of me!

>

The problem is complicated because:

1. Not all thire canned pineapple contains citric acid

2. Some was labeled " in pineapple juice "

3. Some was labeled " in it's own juice " (they say that is now discontinued on

the labels)

4. Some contained pineapple juice from concentrate

5. The quality of the pineapple irtself varies and the support person said that.

6. Some comes from Thailand and some from the ines

7. They say it's Gluten Free but fail to undersand that is not the concern here.

Rinsing the rings well made them OK for me.

Maybe I am nitpicking too much here and creating confusion on the list. It

wouldn't be the

first time :-).

BTW: I have someone backing up my call to Big s in Toronto about the hot

dog

ingredients and they definitely are not allowed to ship to the U.S.

Well, of course. They make their living strictly from SCD.

Do you think Dole, Heinz etc. care aboiut a tiny niche market. The retail stores

all think

" Gluten Free " is the magic word. They have no idea of what we do or why. These

companies you mentioned do not make fruits canned in juice or juices.

just DOLE can change things on a drop of a dime and not have to notify any of

us! Citric

acid is almost always derived from a starch and starch is illegal on the SCDiet.

Actually citric acid is on the Pecanbread LEGAL list.

Apparently it is the inconsitency of the product that gave me grief, not the

fact of the corn

derivitave.

Forgive if this post is similar or a duplicate. Nothing I posted today has shown

up on the

list yet and it is almost 8:00 p.m. March 30.

But the moral of your story remains important. Read labels.

As for me, I'll try a fresh pineapple because at the moment I am tired of

dealing with these

companies. Big s never got back to me or Jodi Nager yet. And just imagine

how many

of us need answers about store bought products we are curious abouy. It is

exhausting

when added to shopping, cooking etc.

This is excellent detail, most companies can't give this much info!

One note though, the new allergy labeling regulations don't include

corn. The corn lobby has effectively persuaded the FDA and the major

allergy groups that corn doesn't need to be added, since " corn isn't

a major allergen " or " corn doesn't cause allergies " or " Very few

people are allergic to corn. " I've heard all the above from various

allergy and medical organizations (yup, the folks who are supposed

to be on OUR side!).

Having moderated a very large babies' allergy support group, I can

tell you that corn allergies were among our most common allergy (and

the least commonly caught by the doctors, incontrast to the milk,

egg, or peanut allergies they're attuned to).

Sad but true

After a 15 minute wait... This is what they said to me:

> So much for the Allergy Act that was past by Congress that went

into affect this January 2006 in the US, reinforcing that all the

top ten allergens being listed on the ingredients! They claimed

that have time " grandfathered in " to make these changes on the label

that will say: citric acid (corn)....this will not happen with DOLE

until later in the year. That they only have to disclose the top 8

allergens: wheat/gluten, soy, milk, peanuts, tree nuts, fish shell

fish and eggs. I guess since " citric acid " doesn't use the

word " corn " they thought they could get a way with it since it isn't

one of the top eight allergens! That they are looking into making

the 'citric acid " out of tapioca! YEAH...this won't help either for

those of us on SCDiet!

Hey guys wanted to add,

Dole was very cooperative and TOLD ME AS MUCH AS THEY COULD...when I warned them

about how KIKI ends up in the HOSPITAL! MOST companies are...they don't want

sewed! THEY JUMP when they here the problems this 22 month old has with GRAIN

and how she has come close to death!

Although, So much for the Allergy Act that was past by Congress that went into

affect this January 2006 in the US, reinforcing that all the top ten allergens

being listed on the ingredients! Corn is never listed! Even gluten is assumed to

be just in " wheat " ...my god....are they trying to kill us? They don't have to

mention gluten...only WHEAT...which is only one of the grains with gluten! CORN

and GLUTEN are in everything under the (processed foods) SUN!

I would like to add:

This doesn't surprise me that corn is in everything.....citric acid in the

pineapple and MORE! Corn is also so addictive....why would they (FDA and

whoever else in the government...including our doctors and formula promoting

companies) want to admit! Even if there is proof that it causes so much trouble

in our HUMAN BODIES, and is more than likely one of the top 8 allergens.....!

Nine times out of ten they are addicted themselves. IT IS IN EVERYTHING!

ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING.....if you don't breast feed it is in EVERY FORMULA...even

the supposedly expensive prescription ones! Talk about starting a person out

" addicted " to CORN...do it right there in the hospital as a newborn! and then

the yeasty beasties have a hay day...right there in the gut of our precious

newborns....starting the vicious cycle...that usually gets labeled

" COLIC " ...later Crohns, Colitis, IBS, IBD, Celiac....auto-immune

diseases......syndrome X.......things our remaining hunter gatherers NEVER HAVE

HEARD OF. Fact prove (scientific research) that they aren't as sick as us

" civilized people " either....no joke look into this!!!! and they don't eat CORN

OR GRAIN!!!!!! Don't get me started.......

It may be a pain making everything from scratch...but even prior to SCD we

discovered this....thanks to being sick all the time....everytime we strayed

last year HORRIBLE CONSEQUENCES>.... Our pantry doesn't even get used anymore.

Thanks to CORN and problems with grain! NO canned goods in this

house.....unless absolutely certain.....My husband joked about turning it into a

TOY BOX, and getting a second refrigerator or freezer!

In our home we know: Celiac (and related gut problems: IBS, colic, Colitis,

GERD) DH, ADD, ADHD, ASD, Hyperekplexia, multiple allergies and sensitivities

(especially TO ALL GRAIN INCLUDING CORN AND RICE!....it is so much fun in a

world that is preoccupied with the stuff...... and more than likely

ADDICTED........thank GOD on SCDiet it isn't allowed anyway! Healing and

getting better for the first time...all of us....no thanks to our " civilized "

grain obsessed world. THANKS TO ELAINE, BTVC book, this wonderful list and

support!

Food for thought, Antoinette day SCD entire family.....
