Actually.....if done properly " normal " people do not stay red for hours after

waxing. I'd say at maybe 20% of my clients - and I have a lot with very

sensitive skin report that it takes that long for the rednessto go away with

the marjority not noticeably pink/red. Everything depends on the products

used and the person doing it. I am an esthetician with rosacea and I have

been waxing myself for years with no ill effects. I have incredibly

sensitive skin and I am back to normal in 30-40 minutes. Believe me there

are a lot of really careless estheticians around so be careful. Without

seing your skin and hair it is hard to predict but saying you would be red

for a few hours would be a really safe bet. Try putting an something really

cold on it immediately following and that will help a lot. Also make sure

you are not out in the sun before you wax.

First and foremost if you are using any kind of AHA, are on accutane, have

done any kind of laser treatment, chemical peel or microdermabrasion recently

you cannot wax. I can't imagine you are aggressively exfoliating your face

right now so this probably doesn't apply I just thought I would mention it.

Also a lot of eye creams have glycolic acid (AHA) so you might not even know

it so be careful when doing your brows. If in doubt take your stuff with

your for your appointment. I never ever mind checking out the ingredients

for people and telling them about the products they are using.

Other things you could try are Vaniqa cream. Definitely research it yourself

if you are interested. What I remember about it clinically is that it

inhibits the production of follicle growth hormone. It is a the perfect

drug.......it works just as long as you keep using it to prevent hair growth

on your lip or chin. I have only one client using at present and she loves

it. Her skin is not sensitive in the least so I have no personal results I

can share with you on rosacean skin.

Laser Hair Removal requires that you have hair much darker than your skin.

It cannot do grey, white or blonde hair at all to my knowledge. I have a few

customers that loved it and some that had a lot of resulting hypopigmentation

both on their lip, chin and bikini areas. Those people are really bummed. I

hear it is also very painful - similar to a rubber band snapping each

individual hair so you get it over and over and over and over again.

I don't know of anyone doing electrolysis anymore.

Chemical (Nair) dipilatories and/or bleaching your lip are the last two

choices I would recommend. The chemicals that dissolve hair are pretty nasty

as is putting peroxide and bleach on your face.

Hope this helps. I'm happy to answer any other questions if I can. I would

call around and go to a place that uses Cirepil Blue Wax. It does not use a

strip at all and just shrink wraps the hair. Normally after cleaning the

area you would put a scant amount of oil as a protective layer followed by a

slight dusting of corn starch so the skin is minimally involved. You still

get the bulb so the results are equally effective without the bother of old

technology strip waxes. It is widely imported from France and I would think

be used at many reputable spas/salons in the area. If not there are several

other european lines besides Cirepil I know of that have similar substitutes

which might be equally effective.

Good luck. Tons of people with rosacea wax with no problems so give it a try.

It usually costs around $15 and people come every 3-6 weeks. Most people

come every 4 weeks though. I'm not sure how much the cream costs but it

isn't covered by most insurance - at least until hair removal becomes

medically necessary! Laser treatments cost around here between

$100-$250/treatment and you go 4-6 times. It is not guaranteed permanent at

this point but results look good for 3 years I hear. Again, whenever you

have ANY treatment there is some risk that the person doing it could mess it

up so be comfortable with that risk before you do anything.

Good luck!

p.s. Waxing your lip is pretty painful too but the pain is only while you

take off the wax so you have 3 quick rips kind of like a bandaid being pulled

off. Since it is close to your nose it really hurts more. I guess you could

compare it to punching someone in the arm compared to the nose. It is just a

very sensitive area. You can have a kind of numbness as well for a couple of

days that you only notice when you touch your lip. Most people don't get the

numbness but it is a possibility.
