Guest guest
Hi everyone...went to see my endocinologist today fro a follow up and going in my spirits were high because i found out today I was approved by my insurance for the surgery...but when I came out I was very down...I dicussed the MGB with her...she was all negative...saying that long-term success was not there that my stomach would just stretch and I would regain all my weight and why put yourself through major surgery and the risk of complications like small bowel perforation...she suggested that I get a personal trainer(I wanted to laugh-and ask her if she was going to pay for that) and to get on a diet with the exercise...low and behold I explained to her, which she already knows, I have been on every diet in the book with all failures...so here I am thinking my approval from my insurance was a sign from the good Lord that it was meant for me to have this...and now this happens. So I am on the hunt for a doc who will support me in this long battle with my weight. I guess I will just have to pray about it and hope the good Lord lets me know if this is the right decision or not. Thanks for all the open ears and understanding...Kendra

I went away upset because Dr. R wants you to have at least a three-month relationship with your PCP. {At least that's what I remember reading} I continued my researched and when Dr. R's paper to the ASBS was posted to his site I copied it along with facts about his success with diabetes. I then took my husband along with me for moral support, and went to see her letting her staff know that I needed a longer conference time with her. She always tries to hurry you out. I just told her in a polite way that I had researched the MGB thoroughly and decided to have the procedure I showed her doc paper and other facts and gave her the letter from Dr. Rutledge to your Physician and asked her if she would please write a letter for me. She said yes, I have since received her letter and it is a good one. Don't be discouraged be confident and persistent. When I first told her that sometimes I just feel like the weight is crushing me, all 100 pounds of her looked me in the eye and said I know how you feel that's how I feel now. You see she was 5 months pregnant with a cute little stomach sticking out. I wanted to slap her in the face hard. They don't have a clue, but it is our life and she should respect your opinion. Give it a try Karla it can't hurt. By the way my husband didn't say a word the whole time but just his presence showed her he was supportive of the MGB surgery. My heart is with you! Guest guest
Hi Friends, Well, and I went to the doctor yesterday--actually made a day of it. We both had our blood drawn, EKG's, she had her follow-up physical, and I had the dreaded mammogram. Chris' bloodwork was the only difficult part of the day. She has small veins that are difficult to find, so I always insist on a phlebotomist. Well, when she is in the chair and I see one of our fav nurses going to draw her blood, I asked where the phleb. was. Oh, she quit, she tells me, I'm going to draw it. I told her my concerns and the problems has had and she assured me all would be well. After looking for a vein for about 5 full min. she started digging in her left arm for it. Then she goes to the other arm and finally calls for help. Another nurse comes in and she tries on the other side. I am freaking out now and they say they will find one. I finally said no, stop, I will take her elsewhere. I told them it wasn't their fault, and I wasn't mad, but that I wanted what was best for my daughter. Since we have an HMO, she couldn't go downstairs with me while I had my mam. Noooo, I had to go to a blood drawing station across town. Thank God the lovely woman was very sympahtetic. had bruises on both arms and she was just so wonderful with her. Within 2 min she was done and apologized for how long it took! said, " It's okay, I spent 20 min at the other place and they didn't even get anything. " I'm sure the whole ordeal was worse for me than as she really didn't complain much. Wish I could have traded veins with her, though--mine are always jabbed first time, no prob. Thursday I go for my physical and the dreaded pap test. My doc's letter will be ready by then so I will be mailing off my packet probably Friday. Things are moving along, slowly (or so it seems) but surely. When I was on Optifast, one of the times they drew blood, the underside of my arm turned almost black from my elbow to my armpit, needless to say I told them that the girl who drew it would never get the pleasure of doing mine ever again. One time I had to have blood drawn, and I told the person doing it that sometimes people have problems finding my veins. She said that she had not had to stick a person more than once in several years. Guess what, I broke her record. She stuck me several times and finally sent me away to have lunch and come back later for more tries. She eventually got it, but it was very traumatic for me (and her too, I think, since I messed up her perfect streak.) Luckily with the last couple of blood tests I have had, there has been no problem finding a vein the first time. I hope you can have surgery with Chris. Good luck! Sara >> Thanks ! Oh, I forgot to post this suggestion for those who have problems in this area, like you and The phlebotomist told us that she should always drink a couple big glasses of water (allowed for fasting bloodwork) before future bloodwork, as it helps plump up the veins.
