I chose the MGB and Dr. Rutledge after considerable study and research. All

of the information on the web site and in my conversations with previous

patients and with Dr. Rutledge " made sense " . The information that I was

subject to appealed to my professional and scientific training. I was at

peace with myself after I had made up my mind.

Mr. Lindstrom's post and Kris Kuhl post did indeed cause me some concern

even though I have already had the surgery.

I have several issues that I would like to address.

*Although I did not try every single one of the " earlier " mgbers, every

single one that I did call [at random] their number was disconnected, etc.

I was purposely looking for early mgbers to be my contacts. I still have

not heard a post from a '97 or early '98 mgber. I am sure they exist but I

and others just have not heard from them.

*At the time of my clinic and surgery I made the comment to my wife that Dr.

Rutledge desperately needs a protege! I feel that Dr. Rutledge is a

consumate professional and caring, concerned surgeon but he may not always

be with us, either on vacation or otherwise as alluded to in other postings.

If I was only missing the first " D " in my DMD degree I would put a

application in with Dr. Rutledge to be my mentor in a heartbeat. I believe

in him. As dentists, we are always covering for one another while someone

is on vacation, attending continuing education, or even having MGB surgery!

I was floored at the clinic when Dr. R [i think] said that no other docs

would " cover " for him while he was away. We all need to pray for a

compatible protege to come along. This work is too important not to

continue should Dr. Rutledge discontinue practice for any reason.

*Walter's post bothered me, but not a lot once I re-read it. Walter spoke

only in generalities. I need hard facts. If he had said that mgb is bad

because of x and y and z, something that you could respond to, then I might

have been more concerned. That I could see he never really gave any

specifics. I am a self pay having to fight for insurance coverage without

any help. I could have really used the help of Walter or someone like him;

especially using the Americans With Disabilities Act angle. This is really

a shame.

Anyway, that's my story and I'm sticking with it. haha

Hello Dr. Rutledge and Everyone,

I spoke to my doctor today about the MGB. He has done quite a bit of

research since I gave him the info I had back in June.

He said that he thinks that this is a good procedure. He also said

that he is impressed with all the information Dr. Rutledge expects

his prospective patients to understand including contacts with

previous patients, info in the Patient Education Manual, the post op

diet and exercise, etc. He said that he has a couple of patients

right now that are scheduled locally for the RNY (I live in VA) who

aren't nearly as informed as I and other prospective MGB patients.

He said to " go for it " !!!!! And he will support me and do follow-ups

to make sure my blood chemistry stays healthy. He is writing the

Physician's letter for me this week.

He would be very interested in seeing how post-ops do in years to

come since Dr. Rutledge has only done this since 97. Perhaps Dr.

Rutledge and he can communicate about this in the future.

Next and last hurdle (perhaps the biggest) is Insurance Pre-

determination. They are supposed to be making a decision by around

Friday July 14. I have CIGNA. I hope they approve it the first time

without my having to deal with appeals.

Thanks everyone for your help on my previous posts. I didn't mean to
