I have finally decided to switch to raw milk for making my yogurt. I

have called around and no stores in the area supply it. I am in

Portland, OR and apparently, as of this year, it is no longer legal to

carry raw dairy products. You have to get it directly from the source

and make some kind of agreement with them. Does anyone have a

suggestion on how to find a reputable good source in my area? Also,

when I am making my yogurt what do I heat this milk to before adding

the starter and putting it in my yogurt maker. I want to be sure I am

not cooking all the good stuff out of it.

Thanks,

molly

Get in touch with your local 4-H Club, the children almost always have a goat

club, and there is plenty of raw milk to be had. That is how we do it here in

NY State, where it is also only available pasteurized in the marketplaces. My

girlfriend's kids have been doing it for years, they have 30 baby goats and 12

does milking right now!!! You can also check with any ethnic meat sellers.

Many Caribbean cultures use goat meat and might know a source for raw goat milk.

Good Luck!!!

Hi Molly,

I would suggest taking a drive in the country around where you

live. I think many if not most of the time when someone has goats

they milk them. You could also ask at your local health food stores

if they know of anyone that has and milks goats. Another place

would be at the feed and seed places. They may know of people who

have goats.

Heat the milk to 180 but not supposed to go over 185. I find this

tricky sometimes.

Have fun on your search.
