Guest guest
Hey guys! I wanted to take a poll. I began Margeaux, , and Elle on the SCDophilus (legal probiotic) on Monday. Yesterday everyone was completely constipated. Margeaux and passed tiny pebbles. Elle was so constipated that she screamed and cried when she passed her bowel. Today both and Elle had big, green, gritty, frothy, and really stinky bowel movements that were formed but soft (this says yeast to me). Margeaux has not had a bowel yet. Are we experiencing die-off from the probiotic? Or should I be looking for a yeast feeder (such as the banana that they ate on Wednesday). I know that we don't accuse fruit of feeding yeast since it is a simple carbohydrate, but I have to confess that we had major clearing out of yeast when we eliminated the legal Welch's grape juice and apples a month ago). Any enlightenment would be helpful? What experiences have others had when begining a probiotic? Jeni Lynn (gastrointestinal problems) SCD 2 months mom to Margeaux, 6 yr. (heavy metal toxicity, add, gastrointestinal problems) , 3 yr. (heavy metal toxicity, risk for add, gastrointestinal problems) Elle, 18 mo. Guest guest
I thought I read somewhere that the green, gritty, frothy is yeast. Colby
Guest guest
It definitely sounds yeasty to me. Kali has the same thing going on right now. I ran out of goat yogurt starter so, I thought for a week I could substitute her other probiotics more frquently. That was a good idea but, it didn't compare to the goat yogurt. Now that I have some more bought and made(2 days now), she's going through die-off & her top back teeth are coming in and she's been in pain. Jeni, give her an epsom salts bath and some activated charcoal before bed tonight and she'll be a bit better tomarrow;). Give her some hugs for me too! These poor kids must be terribly ill if yogurt does this to them. I know this yogurt is strong too but, sometimes we just have to get them over the yeast hump to make them feel better overall. Guest guest
So do you think it is die-off or yeast increasing? Hugs will definitely be administered on your behalf. Guest guest
Jeni Lyn, I don't think that you have to worry about feeding the yeast as long as she's on SCD and you added acidophilus to her daily regime. This same yeast DIE-OFF happened when I added Kali's acidophilus. She was only on SCD and nut yogurt for 3 months and about 6 months SCD I tried the goat yogurt instead. She had to take tiny amts. to build up to be able to tolerate it but, eventually she was fine with it and some other probiotics also. Hopefully, you will see some progress after her die-off period ends. Let us know;) Jenn & K 10 months SCD Re: die-off or what? > > > > I thought I read somewhere that the green, gritty, frothy is yeast. > > > > Colby > > > > > > > > > > > > > > For information on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, please read the book > _Breaking the Vicious Cycle_ by Elaine Gottschall and read the following > websites: > > http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info<http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.i nfo/> > > and > > http://www.pecanbread.com<http://www.pecanbread.com/> > > > >
Guest guest
OK! You are probably right. Since she is SCD, this is most likely die-off due to the probiotic rather than yeast increase due to a banana. Thanks for the reassurance! I am currently getting her epsom salt bath ready. Hopefully, tomorrow will be a better day. Guest guest
a note on grapes: some fruit, legal or not, are yeastogenic. the skin of grapes is one example. about bought juices: I don't trust ANY brand. Guest guest
No, it's SCD legal - from Kirkman's. Says on the back that it is non-dairy. I've also tried the yogurt. :-( ~ > >Reply-To: pecanbread >To: pecanbread >Subject: Re: die-off or what? >Date: Sat, 08 Apr 2006 23:44:54 -0000 > > > > > > Just thought I'd pitch in a question here, and ask if burning is a die >off > > symptom? Guest guest
Dear , Yikes, never had this one...hope Jody comes back soon, or somebody else can help...the only thing that come to mind is cut out all acidic foods (oranges, citrus tomatoes, may not be ready for them yet....)....and if you are doing enzymes stop....sorry not more helpful. IT COULD BE DIE OFF....but do not know. Die off can cause the strangest things! Low grad fevers, sweats, dizziness, irritability, nausea, frequent bowel movements, cramping, flue like symptoms....it is not fun...but it does pass! Try ACTIVATED CHARCOAL CAPSULES...it can't hurt/pretty harmless solution for die off symptoms...if it is die off the burning will go away! Can buy them at health food, supplement vitamin stores! Antoinette Re: die-off or what? Just thought I'd pitch in a question here, and ask if burning is a die off symptom? By burning, I mean of the stomach lining. I've not been able to tolerate any probiotics because of this symptom. It's fairly intense burning, and I really feel like it's doing more damage than good. ?? ~ >>------------------------------------------------------------------------------ >
Guest guest
Yeah....unfortunately, I don't eat anything acidic, and haven't for years. Nobody can figure out why my stomach lining is in such bad shape. Until that gets repaired, I fear I have little hope. Can't do enzymes either, as they have much of the same effect. Actually, carrot juice really helps the lining....but it also is very bad for my candida. Talk about a vicious cycle.......... ~ > >Reply-To: pecanbread >To: <pecanbread > >Subject: Re: die-off or what? >Date: Sat, 8 Apr 2006 21:14:52 -0600 > >Dear , > >Yikes, never had this one...hope Jody comes back soon, or somebody else >can help...the only thing that come to mind is cut out all acidic foods >(oranges, citrus tomatoes, may not be ready for them yet....)....and if you >are doing enzymes stop....sorry not more helpful. > >IT COULD BE DIE OFF....but do not know. Guest guest
Carol, I am not 100% SCD...but almost. I know that if you're not 100%, you are not at all SCD. I am currently working with my doc to get my stomach to where I CAN be SCD. But I mostly eat eggs, meat (lots of fish), and a little bit of spinach. The non SCD part would be corn. I mainly eat the corn for carbs, because it's quite literally the only carb I can eat without getting very ill. So....unless someone here can tell me that you don't really have to have carbs on SCD, then I can't do this diet yet. But...I AM very hopeful that I will someday. If I eliminate the corn, am I going to be able to tolerate acidophilus? I am skeptical. ~ > >Reply-To: pecanbread >To: pecanbread >Subject: Re: die-off or what? >Date: Sun, 09 Apr 2006 13:16:11 -0000 > > > Re: die-off or what? > > > > > > Just thought I'd pitch in a question here, and ask if burning is a die >off > > symptom? Some sources of " good " carbs are banana, avocado, and butternut squash. You cannot do SCD with low carbs or no carbs as you are risking ketosis a dangerous condition. Pleaseave a closer look at BTVC, the book for this diet and how about giving some of those good carbs a try? Carol F.
Guest guest
Carol, I've read the book. I know everything there is to know. But that's what I'm saying. I can't tolerate a single SCD carb. No bananas, no avocados, etc. I don't know why, but I'm pretty sure it's the fiber and not the sugars (gastroparesis patients often have a hard time with fiber). I love them all....but they do not love me. :-( Actually, I take that back. I can tolerate carrot juice just fine, as far as my stomach (gp) is concerned. But man does that make the yeast flare up!! I do believe my stomach wants one thing, and my intestines want another. ~ > >Reply-To: pecanbread >To: pecanbread >Subject: Re: die-off or what? >Date: Mon, 10 Apr 2006 23:58:48 -0000 > > > > > > Carol, > > > > I am not 100% SCD...but almost. Hi , Noticed that mentioned gastroparesis...Just wondering if you've read Dr. Bernstein's book on diabetes treatment (easy to find if you search amazon.com under his name). The latest edition has a great chapter on gastroparesis that tells you " just about everything that's ever worked for anybody " with gastroparesis. Maybe there's something in that chapter that would help you? Kayla
