Guest guest
I am so excited. I found a great place to buy meat! Everything at the grocery store now has a label saying it contains up to a X% of solution, so who knows if its SCD legal and who wants that junk! So, I went in search of an alternative (I like Whole Foods, but it gets way out of my budget and its a drive). Today I found the local Butcher! I live in Missouri which is all pretty rural. The local farmers take their cows in to be butchered and the butcher buys some to sell out the front door! Very economical! And since they are small farmers (not the people the farms - hee, hee) they don't feed all the extra junk! Admittedly its not organic but at leasts its more natural and the butcher doesn't add anything to it! Yeah! Check it out if you are looking. They beat the grocery store by a couple dollars a pound! Guest guest
You can cut costs even more if you buy a side or hind quarter of beef, 1/2 pig, or whole lamb. I spend about $300 all at once for a hind 1/4 of beef which gives me about 100 lbs of meat. This includes all the fancy high grade cuts plus lean ground beef. It lasts our family of four about 8 months. I can fit a hind 1/4 and 1/2 pig in my relatively small chest freezer, as well as other stuff. The lamb isn't quite as economicable, but certainly cheaper than in the store. I paid $200 for an entire lamb last week, cut the way I wanted and cryovac sealed. This is how I buy our meat also. It is a bit of a drive to a really small community to get my meat and to get a good price I buy a 1/2 of a 1/2 but it is great meat. Sandy M.
