Guest guest
Hi Kerri, Dr. Natasha -McBride has a great chapter (in her book " Gut and Psychology Syndrome " ) about ear infections. She talks about dairy, too. But also says abnormal flora in the throat contributes, so she has people use probiotics to improve throat flora just like improving gut flora. By the way, she says there's been research showing that kids who aren't given antibiotics for ear infections recover from ear infections just as fast and well as kids who are given antibiotics! So there's really no good reason to use antibiotics! Hope this is helpful. Kayla
Guest guest
That makes sense. I will have to get that book. I assume I would need to open the probiotic capsules then to get them to her throat area? Do you happen to know if she talks about the thyroid bring related to gut function too? I wish I had known all this 7 years ago :-( Kerri SCD 3months-7 yr old constipation and rages-getting better RE: Ear thingy > Hi Kerri, > Dr. Natasha -McBride has a great chapter (in her book " Gut and > Psychology Syndrome " ) about ear infections. I have a bit of experience with hyperthyroidism and diet approaches people have taken. We can continue this offlist but many knowledgeable people I've spoken to feel that while it is important to reevaluate one's diet if on SAD and over all lifestyle, and minimize iodine (if hypER), that proper hormone suppression (or replacement if hypO) is much more important to focus on. Take care, Fay
Guest guest
Fay I tried to e mail you off list and could not get an e mail through. Can you e mail me directly so we can talk more about thyroid-gut issues? Thanks! Kerri Re: Ear thingy > > > On Fri, 7 Apr 2006 22:43:56 -0700 " Kerri Swarner " > writes: >> That makes sense. I lost a great deal of weight in the year just prior to SCD as I was obese. Elaine suggested I challenge my thyroid medicine with the approval of the family physician and we did just that. I have been without the Eltroxin for over a year and my thyroid is functioning fine. I still have low body temperature but no longer feel cold as with ';s Syndrome. My hair stopped thinning (baldish spot in front under the bangs) I am not suggesting evryone throw away their prescriptions as the weight change could have been a deciding factor. Just wanted to share. Carol F.
Guest guest
Dr. N says open the capsule and put the probiotic on the child's tongue at bedtime, after teeth have been brushed, and the child will not be having anything further to eat or drink before sleeping. Yes, gut function is related to thyroid. Can't remember if Dr. Natasha talks about that in her book, but I read it somewhere and that's probably where! I do remember that she told me in my phone consult with her re: my daughter that thyroid hormone supplements should not be necessary -- the thyroid problem would be resolved through SCD eventually. Hope this is helpful. Kayla >
