Guest guest
Brent Said: ....am a total believer in SCD myself, but maybe have a different angle since my child had runny, bloody diarrhea....I wonder, did your kids have bleeding ulcers when you gave probiotics or enzymes? Was this in the first several weeks of the diet if so? I think there is a difference here worth talking about. Maybe its in the fine details....... Dear Brent, We have been very careful with the probiotics thus far....only eating a few teaspoons of the goat yogurt a day. Plus word about enzymes: Lucy Rosset (survivor of ulcerative colitis/who almost had her colon removed!), from Lucy's kitchen shop has voiced concern about enzymes containing " protease " in those with intestinal inflammation, ulcers and bleeding. Elaine shared this concern with her when alive. You see protease is an enzyme that breaks down Protein...if ones intestines are damaged/bleeding or inflamed...Elaine feared that this enzyme PROTEASE would cause problems......the enzyme protease possibly causing more inflammation and bleeding. We where told to not use protease with KIKI, since she has shown signs of inflammation and bleeding. We have been seeking out the ones with out this enzyme...buying those SCD safe kinds that contain lipase (digest fat/since she had signs of steatorrhea...smelly rancid vinegary smelling diarrhea (a sign of undigested fat) and lactase (to digest milk sugar lactose/since she is/was truly lactose intolerant and still breast feeding/human milk. I have been very hesitant to try other enzymes even though recommended to us. Hoping that as she heals her intestines (like Elaine promised) her intestines will heal on strict SCD and will take over the job! We had a set back a week ago.....and had to go back to introductory diet with KiKi...almond flours/other nut flours and too much raw fruit sent her into diarrhea/mucousy/craming/pain/seizures again. Was told it may be a Phenol sensitivity or that we jumped too fast to advanced foods....no more almonds or nuts of any kind. Still cooking fruits into purées and steaming vegetables. She does ok right now with coconut flour (grinded as fine as I can process the stuff I might add) and the peanut butter brownies in Elaines BTVC book...I add an extra egg to make it like cake (since creamy peanut doesn't cause her problems that we can see thus far)...may note that the peanut is not a nut a legume! Still eating rather limited. Ok with eggs....she loves them, fish of all kinds (being mindful of the mercury ones), meats of all kinds, fruits if cooked of all kinds, and vegetables steamed of all kinds....no beans (with exception of peanut butter brownies occasionally) and no nuts (make her cake with coconut flours. When KiKI was the sickest we thought she may have Cystic Fibrosis....she even came back border line diabetic at one time.....mucous literally poured from her....her diaper was filled with mucous, some times streaked with blood...she was first diagnosed with " colic " and then diagnosed with " Celiac Disease " due to failure to thrive...literally stopped growing and started starving....(yet the gluten free diet failed her and my family MISERABLY!)...my son did the same thing as a baby (but not as bad by far, he always grew well and never got as sick), and they diagnosed him at the time with " colic " ...when older it turned to " colitis " .... he too is now diagnosed with " Celiac Disease " . As a baby I was labeled with " colic " , then it turned to colitis, then it turned to IBS....then it turned to " hypochondria and mental illness " ....and then I was diagnosed with EGD and biopsy as having Celiac Disease.....The symptoms of both Celiac, Colitis, IBD, IBS....all have similarities when I did my own research. " Colic " is the catch all phrase for any baby under the age of three months old! One thing is for certain...if you are on this list we have damaged intestines in common...I try not to worry about specific diagnosis...thanks to loosing faith in the medical community misdiagnosing and missing the problem (calling it this and then that).......short of needing them in cases that are truly baffling, or a true emergency we try to stay away......I have realized that they are as confused as we are! ***Elaine seems to be the only one who knew it was one BAG OF INTESTINAL PROBLEMS......not the many as they think.........notice how the book speaks to all of us: Crohn's Disease, Ulcerative Colitis, Diverticulitits, Celiac Disease, Cystic Fibrosis and Chronic Diarrhea...and then she realized that this also included the autistics/ASD people....you see one book...speaking to all of us....not in several books....but ONE****. Hope this helps, call Lucy at Lucy's kitchen Shop (...she has much experience strength and hope and loves to share (when she isn't swamped)! You see we all belong. Nothing unique about any of us....just one big thing in common damaged GUTS! That make us all feel sick. Sincerely, Antoinette and the " Silly Yaks " at the Bunce Zoo..... now you know why I don't put " Celiac " ....you see we are " silly yaks " ....nothing classical celiac about us....this is why the traditional gluten free diet did not work...and does not work for many celiacs! It's a crime that this stupid Gluten Free Diet even started as far as I am concerned....it is keeping to many of us terribly and dangerously sick. Guest guest
Antoinette, I think you have in the past, but I have deleted it--what enzyme do you use that are lipase? Guest guest
We use " Enzymedica " , but to be honest think they are too strong (and not to happy because of this). I think it was Jody (moderator) who said this too, about this brand, can't remember. We are looking into changing. Get in touch with below companies/Call them, and tell them your request to have some without protein enzymes/protease. That is what I plan on doing. Can find many of them on the web (with phone numbers) I prefer to talk to people in person. Remember that enzymes are supposedly not needed full term unless you have a problem where you have permanent damage. For example I lost my gallbladder.....otherwise Elaine says we heal out of needing them. I don't know for sure, but I don't think they even used them for her daughter Judy when she was healing! And she healed fine! Jody said to me that it speeds up healing though, if you can use them. Hope this helps, Antoinette Here is a list that the serve uses more often: LEGAL ENZYMES Houston Nutraceuticals, Inc. Peptizyde No Fenol H N-Zyme Prime Kirkman Labs DPP IV Forte EnZymAid Enzym-Complete/DPP Multi-Enzyme Formula Peptidase Complete Phenol Assist Digest Gold by Enzymedica Ultra-zyme Plus by Thorp Nutrition Vitase Digestion Formula Re: Re: Brent/ " Just Curious " Antoinette, I think you have in the past, but I have deleted it--what enzyme do you use that are lipase?
