You did an excellent job of explaining the various surgeries in layman's terms and in doing so you have given me a clearer understanding of this wonderful procedure and why it works for us. Consider: the cigar-shaped pouch is long and skinny with no valve at the point where it connects to the small intestines. I can understand why some would worry about the residual bile from the intestines backing up into the new stomach. BUT..........................Unless we all stand on our heads all day, the bile is NOT going to flow uphill to our esophagus. I would think gravity would play an important part in keeping it flowing downward. I don't want to argue with the astute members of the Bariatric association, but my husband had a Billroth II and half of his stomach removed OVER 20 years ago due to ulcers, and has no problem with acid reflux or esophageal cancer. His only problem has been occasional dumping. If you want my vote........................................ YES! YOU CAN STAY!!!!
