Guest guest
Hi folks, We're a month into SCD with our 6 y.o. son (dx severe ADHD), so I thought I'd share a few observations. It was a little tough to get going at first, but now I don't consider this diet all that difficult, though it does require a bigger block of time for food preparation. Liam is truly enjoying the food, his favorites being the midas gold waffles, coconut macaroons and zucchini muffins. In fact, I brush the top of the muffins with a little honey, dust them with finely grated coconut, then use the SCD jelly to create " stitching " that makes them look like baseballs, and therefore, " cool Dad. " I should mention that following Carol's lead and grinding pecan flour from Costco in most of our recipes has made everything tastier. Thanks Carol. More importantly, we haven't seen any yeasty behavior over the past two weeks, and have seen a real happy kid. Getting great reports from school, including a noticeable improvement in handwriting over the past month. He just seems very connected and comfortable in his skin, perhaps moreso than ever. Interestingly, the biggest gains we've seen have been over the past week, but we've also seen loose stools and some diarrhea during the same period. Because of the gains I want to say this is a die-off phase, since we really didn't see one early on, but I just don't know if I know what die-off is to see it. We're planning to wait a couple more days, and if nothing changes restart with the intro diet. Does diarrhea always signal a setback? Very noteworthy too is that our decision to allow Liam foods he had tested intolerant to seems to have paid off. We were GFCF for 2 years before starting SCD, and his highest IgG intolerances included cheese, eggs, bananas. Since they are SCD staples, and he hadn't had them in 2 years, we did 3-day re-intro tests for several of these, and after no reaction we decided to let him have them on SCD. So far no hyperactivity, nothing, with the bananas, eggs, farmer's cheese and swiss cheese. I think his intolerances may be behind him. Next up for us is trying to add the homemade yogurt, but I think we'll see how we do with the latest diarrhea before we proceed. After two years, I think we've finally got the yeast scared. Hope this is helpful, Bill
