I had my surgery on Friday around 12:30pm and was home 24 hours later. I

feel pretty good. In the hospital I had a couple of bouts of gas pains but

mostly that has been it. I drank some gatorade a few hours ago a little too

fast, I guess and I had indigestion type feelings.

My IV was on top of the hand and Nurse Sheila explained about the line

kinking if it was in the bend of the arm I didn't have much choice in the

matter.

In the holding area, I didn't ask for and didn't receive anything to help me

relax. (Although I was very teary and would have benefitted from something.

I started crying when my husband had to go one way and I had to go to the

holding area.)

I do remember everything initially in the OR - moving myself onto the gurney,

having my arms placed, getting all the little sticky things put everywhere,

and the bp cuff and oxygen thing on my finger. It was so cold in there that

my teeth were chattering. After they did all that they said they were

putting something into the IV and then put the oxygen mask over my face - not

really on it, but over it. They did ask if I was claustrophobic, which I

wasn't. I was definitely ready to be knocked out! I would have much rather

been out in the holding area.

I don't remember anything else until I opened my eyes when the nurse told me

to look at my husband standing there. The rest of the time I slept, hit the

demerol and walked a little. That's it. The hardest part was the wait all

morning, the holding area and the gas pain

So, I hope that helps someone. I was very calm until the holding area and

then I just kept reminding myself why I was doing this. As a matter of fact,

there was an older guy in the gurney next to me waiting for prostrate surgery

and he kept flirting with everyone but especially with the nurse who (after

he asked) told him she was a size 2! I don't ever want to be around

discussions like that again and feel like such a duck out of water.

I've been taking my meds. I burp a lot. I haven't had anything to eat or

drink other than gatorade and yogurt.

I better run. How are you , Tracey, Christy??

Donna,

Nope-- the duck is going to turn into a beautiful swan! (Now, I would argue

that you were already beautiful)
