Guest guest
Hey Dinah, Thank you for your email. Wow, there are a few of us " Alabamians " on the list!!!! Good luck on your surgery date!!! I cannot wait to hear from you after your surgery. Where will you be staying and how long of a drive will it be on you? If we decide to drive it will take about 5.5 hours or more, depending on the traffic. What kind of insurance did you have? Sounds like Blue Cross and Blue Shield will cover it from some of the emails I got, I PRAY IT DOES!!!! C'ya, Phenix City, Alabama Dinah Boatwright wrote: > Hi , I'm from Andalusia, AL. I have been reading > constantly about Dr. Rutledge and his procedure. Everything sounds > great to me so far. But I would love some input from the people that > have had the surgery already!! Like ..... Hi , My name is Suzanne and I am 2 1/2 weeks post-op. I'm 50 years old, 5 ft tall and weighed 254 lbs before surgery. Like you, I have struggled with food and weight all my life. I'll try to answer your questions from my limited experience so far. 1. How are you feeling now compared to before the surgery? The first week after surgery was a little rough for me because of those nagging gas pains that settle in various places, but other than that I have had no problems. I just am starting to feel somewhat normal again, not so tired, and my new tummy is not talking to me as much as it was. 2. Did you have any problems with food after surgery? I stayed on clear liquids and watermelon (with lots of salt) the first two weeks. I've just started this week adding different foods to see how I tolerate them (so far, so good). I think one of the biggest problems you have with food is that eating is a social thing and you experience a lot of different feelings about how you have to eat now. 3. How much did you have to pay that your insurance didn't pay, i.e.. co-pay if any? My insurance paid 80% of all my costs, excluding a $500.00 deductible for the hospital. 4. How much have you lost to date? I have lost 14 lbs in 2 1/2 weeks. 5. What did you think about your stay at the hospital and Dr. Rutledge? I think Dr. Rutledge is wonderful. He's very busy now so you don't get to spend a lot of time with him, but you can tell that he really cares about his patients, he understands what we are going through and he genuinely wants to help us. Guest guest
Hi , Welcome to the group! I'm a postie, just a few days but a happy postie! Like everybody else I've been FAT all my life. Hopefully not the rest of my life! Again I'm only a few days post op but physically I feel great! I've been fortunate so far, no nausea or any of the other stuff! Far as having problems with food, guess I'll leave that to everybody else, I'm still on liquids! Yummmmmmmmmmm! I love Dr. R and I promise you will too!!! He is the most understanding person of our problems I have ever run up on besides my own doctor. He's a dream about my weight problem too! My insurance was BCBS of NC HMO, look in your book under exclusions for weight control and see if it states " except for surgery for the morbidly obese " That's what mine said and I was approved within a month! One of the lucky ones I guess. Feel free to e-mail me, I really need the contact as I'm getting through stage one! rosemarylocklear@... Guest guest
I am new to the list. I was banded two years ago. : Welcome to the list. I'm sorry, I just have to say that your one line post gave me a giggle this morning. The kids have been home all week on vacation and I'm a bit loopy at this point and I read your post as saying, " I am new to the list. I was banned two years ago " . I sat here thinking, " My God what did this poor girl do to get banned from this list? " Then I re-read your post and got a giggle out of it saying you were " banded " . I then I noticed Lori's note to you welcoming you back. She must have read it the same way I did. Anyway, thanks for my first giggle of the day. Welcome to the list. Regina. Guest guest
I did read it that way. It never occured to me that had a band. I wasn't going to say anything. I came here because we too had candida among other creepy things in the intestines that should not be there, Celiac that didn't respond to gluten free diet and I also have multiple chemical sensitivities, 14 prescription " allergies " , multiple environmental problems....day 49....I don't know if they will all go away...some caused anaphylaxis...will never trust those again.....but have a surprise to share! A week ago...I went to mother in laws house with cats....I am allergic to fury cats (can only own a Sphinx/ the hairless cat)....I was shocked to discover that my eyes and nose didn't start going like it use too! This is sweet! AN added bonus to no longer loosing weight, I gained 6 pounds...if you are over weight like my husband " was " ...you loose!....Plus my celiac symptoms are gone, my chronic fatigue is less and my depression is vanishing! This doesn't even begin to explain the miracle we are witnessing in our ADHD and ASD kids! Can't beat it! I am pretty sure we are SCD keepers! Our immune systems are finally getting the rest they needed to stop being on " RED ALERT " (as Star Track says)! Glad you came back! Antoinette (entire family of five/SCD day 49 family list of problems: Celiac, DH, malabsorption of unknown origin, all those allergies, sensitivities, and intolerances, leaky gut, ADD, ADHD, ASD, mental illness, and more!....all healing and doing better than we ever have!) Carol F. on this list, has much in common with you too!....you are not alone...so many of us!
