Guest guest
Re: Dr. R's response about acid reflux incidence in other types of wls I had a vertical banded gastroplasty in 83. It failed, but prior to that surgery I seldom had any problem with acid reflux. Afterward I had problems, and they became progressively worse. For the last 5 years I have been very concerned about the risk of esophageal cancer from it, and lived on a daily round of rolaids or tums and Pepcid AC. The middle of the night episodes that woke me up gagging and gasping were the worst. Since my mgb revision in Jan, 2000 guess what? Not one day of acid reflux. NOT ONE SINGLE SOLITARY EPISODE. If for no other reason, the mgb has been a huge blessing and a removed a tremendous source of worry and discomfort, not to mention the $ savings on not having to buy all that Pepcid. I am betting my chances of future problems developing from the mgb are much smaller, if not 0, compared to the risk I faced from the VBG. Thanks, Dr. R. I never knew the stats on that, but I sure was living them.
