If people can remember this, because that first time trying to get up, the mind is still good and foggy from anesthesia and pain medication, adjust the bed to a nearly sitting position, before getting out of the bed. This avoids stress on the port holes. [Just a suggestion, but any angels/spouses/friends who are greeting the new people as they get wheeled in from surgery can get the bed in position as soon as the new person is poured into it, since the patient probably won't remember to do this.] Keep the bed in a semi-upright position while you are in the hospital because it will both help you get in and out of the bed, as well as help get rid of the gas inside you (the gas rises and it will pass through the membranes in your esophagus and come out as a burp).
