Guest guest
Hi, Thank you for allowing me to be part of your group! My son is almost 3 1/2 and we started the SCD on Thursday. He has normal stools, has been on Feingold for 1 1/2 years and GFCF for 10 mo. I am starting the SCD to target his bad yeast issues. He is enjoying the chicken soup with carrots, eggs, hamburger patties, and cooked pears. I have a few questions: 1) He has been on Ambrotose for about 2 years and it helped him dramatically--no more sickness or asthma after beginning--but it is illegal on the SCD. Does anyone take it or do we have to discontinue? 2) What do you use for snacks at school/preschool? I was thinking of making the muffins with the chicken and squash listed here recently. Is that o.k. so soon? 3) Do you need to limit fruit amounts due to yeast? He has only had pears in moderation for about 5 months due to yeast. I am afraid of giving bananas and other fruits due to the natural sugar. Thank you so much for your insight!! Meredith
Guest guest
Meredith, I have some ideas for Question#2 snacks: I don't know if you are trying to avoid certain foods, as my son was never on Feingold, and I'm not sure if you are trying to avoid some SCD foods because of it, like doing SCD without the casein is a choice, and it is already gluten free. So here are some ideas: Baked apples/pears Applesauce or pearsauce with cinnamon Jello made from grape juice (or jello jigglers for more fun shapes) Carrot or squash chips Deviled eggs? Pumpkin pie filling made from butternut squash (there are several pumpkin recipes in the " Files " section, look there to find the pie filling recipe (no crust) Meringues (egg whites, honey, salt) easiest with dehydrator for drying nice and crisp Homemade popsicles (pineapple juice/orange juice/ripe banana) Homemade ice creams (we love the peanut butter ice cream recipe from pecanbread.com....it is amamzing how much peanut butter flavor you get from using such a small amount of legal peanut butter....you can also cook some peaches or other fruit to make a fruit ice cream. I realize frozen foods aren't easy to pack to school, but my idea is to keep variety in the diet, so my son wasn't eating the same things at home for snack that he had to eat at school. And at year end it always seems that the kids are given popsicles at recess, and this way I'd be prepared for taking a popsicle to school and keep in their freezer for these days. Then when you get around to it, you'll be using nut butters, and be able to make things like peanut butter brownies. And on your question about limit fruits due to yeasts, my experience with this diet and yeast, is that I never limited my son's fruit intake, and we had wonderful organic acids test results showing a reduction in arabinose down to almost zero. We didn't use any other prescriptions or supplements for yeast control either.
