Guest guest
Some food facts... Although many fruits and vegetables can still deliver an unhealthy dose of pesticides, according to Consumers Union reviews of U.S. Department of Agriculture data, there's been some progress. Recent restrictions on some of the most toxic insecticides, such as methyl parathion and chlorpyrifos, have dropped the overall health risk from foods by approximately 37 percent, CU estimates. But in its 2001 evaluation of the Environmental Protection Agency's performance in reducing children's pesticide exposure to guarantee " reasonable certainty of no harm, " as required by the Food Quality Protection Act of 1996, CU gave the EPA a grade of " D " for its performance, stating that the agency had reduced residues " much less than it needs to. " For consumers, the simplest solution is to choose organic foods, which contain two-thirds fewer residues. The foods below are highest in pesticides, and therefore best to buy organic. 1. Winter Squash 2. Wheat 3. Strawberries 4. Green Beans 5. Celery 6. Apples 7. Peaches 8. Grapes 9. Spinach 10.
