Guest guest
Deb, You are absolutely correct that no type of long term fasting should be done unless you are under the supervision of a physician who can monitor such things as potassium, heart and liver functions, ect. Fasting on just water can be extremely dangerous. With any fasting, there is a risk of low potassium which can quickly become life-threatning. Many Bariatric surgeons use an eight week fasting program to allow time for the pouch and connections to heal. I did not mean to suggest that anyone fast beyond this eight week period. I was only trying to say that I would have been terrified of an eight week fast until I read the books. I did not know that people could live so long without food! Also, when you do start on foods, make sure that they are soft, or blended foods. You can gradually increase soft, well-chewed solid foods. Of course, the physician that is doing your follow-up care should be following your progress closely, and recommending your diet changes. Some medications are very damaging to the liver and kidneys when taken while fasting. Hope this is more clear. Stormy
