Guest guest
Does it put you off all illegals, cold turkey, onto the diet and is that considered preferable for some reason? If a person doesn't suffer from diarrhea normally, it is necessary to avoid eating raw fruit and having nut bread for a while? thanks, Helen
Guest guest
Helen, I tried to find something on the sites that pointed to the exact reason for intro and couldn't find anything to refer you to. I look at the intro diet like this, and maybe I read it in a book? The intro diet gives your body a " resting " or " cleansing " period if you will, when your body can adjust from eating grains, sugars, etc. and changes the environment in which our yeast/bacteria thrive. It gives your body a chance to begin the healing process and allows you to eat a basic diet that is healthy for you, and allows you to see a change in BM's if those are a problem for you. The cooked fruits and veggies are easier to digest and this is how you want to introduce new foods, easiest to digest first, then work up to raw and dried foods. Then by adding one new food at a slow pace, you can tell if your body is not able to tollerate that particular new food. You can take that food back out and try a new fruit or vegetable, if you had problems. Listen to your own body and work your way up to the raw fruits. Allow your body to function on easy to digest foods and observe. Time afer time I've read posts on this list about how people who didn't do the intro diet, went back later to do it, and got better results. My son who typically had constipation, did intro, and then we found that just a Tablespoon of homemade applesauce would give him " D " and so for quite a while we lived on homemade pearsauce, which he handled just fine. I never would have dreamed he'd have a reaction to applesauce. With the nuts, start with nut butters, work up to nut flours, and eventaully whole raw nuts. Guest guest
my thoughts on the intro diet are that if you consider what the diet is supposed to do -- starve the bad guys, then we want to make sure we do it from the beginning. i assume anyone considering scd is doing so because they have a gut flora & intestine that is not what it should be. by starting on the intro diet you are getting rid of any undigested foods in your intestine and beginning a diet in which you are feeding your body foods that it CAN digest. so it is the first time that 100% of the food eaten will be digestable by your own body (not the microbes we want to KILL). so if you start the diet with foods that you cant digest fully you are not sure how well you are a) feeding yourself and starving the bad guys. many people have found that when they didnt start out on intro diet they ended up going back and starting again. also you dont stay on intro diet for a long time. i think it is 1-2 days normally. then you add in foods. i love the list of suggested order of foods available at www.pecanbread.com under food prep - i found it to be a wonderful trail map of where to go next. so if you follow that list and add green beans one day , wait 1-2 days (+/or till nice BM) you add spinach next day, apples, bananas, etc. You will see after 2 weeks that you are having a variety to work with . donna > > Does it put you off all illegals, cold turkey, onto the diet and is > that considered preferable for some reason? > > If a person doesn't suffer from diarrhea normally, it is necessary to > avoid eating raw fruit and having nut bread for a while? > > thanks, > Helen >
Guest guest
when my husband started the diet with my boys, he started at intro diet and added foods one at a time but not necessarily at the same order that was listed at pecanbread.com. he did eat raw fruit pretty early on and had not trouble. at one time he was having a reaction and it turned out to be raisins. we stopped and the gas stopped. his issue was yeast related but he didnt seem to have any obvious digestive problems with bad stool. (or at least he said -- i never check his0. i dont think he had the same gut damage that my boys had so he had more freedom to jump into raw fruit and veggies. hope this comparison is helpful. donna > > > If a person doesn't suffer from diarrhea normally, it is necessary to > avoid eating raw fruit and having nut bread for a while? > > thanks, > Helen >
