Guest guest
I started SCD 3 days ago for my 4 yo and 2 1/2 yo ASD boys. Before, both had horrible diarrhea. The 2 1/2 yo has almost normal stools already (amazing or coincidence?). The 4 yo has had a noticable improvement in behavior (his teacher actually stopped me after school to ask what we had changed!), but has horrible gas (?) pains at night. My husband and I assumed this was die-off in him, but then today, he is having horrible nausea and diarrhea with identifiable pieces of food (from yesterday's dinner) in it. Is this normal? What should I do to help him? HELP! He (and I) is not getting much sleep -- the pains are mostly at night. Oh! One other question. 4 yo is a REALLY picky eater and doesn't eat much protein (only hot dogs -- no eggs, chicken other than nuggets). He also only likes fresh fruits and vegetables. Is this hurting him? If you think it is, how can I get him to eat the into diet foods? Any advice would be great! Thanks! __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Hi! I just wanted to post my solidarity w/you since we both seem to have started SCD at the same time. My 3.5 year old son has had normal stool since day 3 for us (days one and two coincidentaly we had no BM's) - after constant mushy foul smelling for the past 2+ years. The smell is still horrific, but I assume die-off. We are having only 1 stool each day so far since day 3. We went the first day w/eggs and some sneakies hid inside, but the second day Mason did not eat anything - he was feverish, irratible and miserable. He slept several times. The third day he ate a few bites of this and that - but now, he's hungry - even pulling me to the table to say " Eat! " I just keep holding firm and offering him things that are intro and stage 1 acceptable - slowly introducing banana, heavily diluted Welch's Grape Juice (which appears to be a source of controversy on it's legality), today he is having some steamed fresh green beans (before he would only eat canned), and he's had some homemade applesauce. Still relying pretty heavily on eggs for protein, but I keep on trying with the soup, meatballs, chicken etc. Yesterday he had gas and was burping a lot. We also did have some interesting white flecks/chunks (sorry, gross!), in his stool but I couldn't tie it to anything he ate so maybe it was from cleansing. I've turned into quite the poop peeper these days! I've read here more than once to stay strong on intro and not to introduce foods to early - for optimum results. I'm trying to spare us the agony of having to go back and repeat intro over and over again and am learning from others to work hard at it the first time. Anyway, not much advice to your questions - just wanted to shout out to a fellow newbie! Good Luck! Amy w/Mason 3.5 yr. Guest guest
Our die off happened rather fast too. It looked like the " flu " . Irritability, easy crying, tantrums, diarrhea, nausea achy muscle. dizziness...refusing to eat...because you are sooooo sick. Get Epson salt and soak him in a warm tub several times a day. Also get Activated Charcoal....our son can take capsules after teaching him to swallow them " like rocks " ...he too is four. Other wise open and put in apple sauce. Give one hour before or one hour after meals. NOT WITH A MEAL...will rob his nutrients from him. Hope this helps. We ate the intro for almost 10 days due to undigested foods and damaged intestines. I know that this is probably not what you wanted to hear...but it was worth it for us because we where able to digest our food. Make the chicken soup...and SCD safe pear sauce or apple sauce. Get a SCD safe vitamin, Nordic Naturals Cod Liver Oil, SCD calcium, and cook with good oils such as coconut oil, olive oils and walnut. This adds calories and essential fats and omega 3 that he will need to heal. We too where not getting much sleep...your son is so sick...hug him and love him...try to stay patient. I know it is hard.....but worth it.. Nighttime is the hardest...for some reason. Remember that " this too shall pass " . We are getting our autistic daughter back! And our ADHD son already is no longer ADHD...have hope...what ever your problems are. The picky eater will slowly vanish....as he gets over his " addiction " to the foods of his old ways. This too happened to us. He will mourn the loss of some foods...help him emotionally with this. Giving him hope that he will feel better soon. Make him a part of preparing dinner and meals. All kids like to cook...at least most of them...This sparks the appetite when they are in control of picking out their SCD safe foods at the store too. Hope this, and others have helped. Sincerely Antoinette (2 months plus/entire family SCD because of malabsorption and asd problems in our children.) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
