Guest guest
I don't know about the spices, but I don't believe any of the products listed have maple syrup. Maple syrup, pure or otherwise is illegal. Guest guest
Guys I may loose popularity here...but in light of trying to bring our kids back to a high nutritional status...thanks to their brains starving with malabsorption, don't you think the hot dogs and bologna are a little low in nutritional value even if they are proven to be SCD safe? Especially in the first year of healing back to some form of normalcy???? I know we are tired...think of me...recovering from CD myself...with a family also recovering...thank God on month two...feeling better...the last thing I wanted to do is give up my " fast food " ways...and heal my family like " grandma " in the kitchen! But that is exactly what we are trying to do...thank the lord my husband is helping out now....we make everything by scratch....even some of our juices! Mostly drink water....finding quick ways to do thing by listening to old timers of SCD! Are finally healing when no other way worked. Maybe once we heal for a good year, we will think " FAST scd safe food " ...but now our brains need the best nutrition money can offer...and this is not it! I want everything that enters my mouth and the mouths of my family to be the highest in value! We simply do not want our kids to suffer like me and my husband did...maybe it is because I/we are AS/ASD myself that I say this...my life was not all that good being missed! Neither was my husbands....moving on and feeding our brains the best...despite some likely permanent damage....trying to give them the best whole and nutritious SCD safe foods can offer! Food for thought, Antoinette and (23 month KiKI/celiac/asd),(18 month old Bubbles/hyperekplexia/cp/lupus traits), (s/celiac/asd/add), (Hubby celiac and AS/add)....now this is a full plate of home made foods!...but we are doing it and surviving and reaping the benefits!) a.. Guest guest
Well I hear you but Applegate actually are ground beef and not fillers, for their beef dogs ,ground turkey again not a lot of fillers ,and ground chicken..These are not your typical hotdogs...However are they SCD legal I do not know that for a fact..but I do know the quality of meat is very high and healthy without being treated with antibiotics, nitrates arsenic and many other things the general grocer uses.. Again I don't mean to dispute the legality of SCD or not just that they actually are a very good choice for kids (not sure if good for SCD kids ?? ) to get protien without all the added junk.. ;-) > > Guys I may loose popularity here...but in light of trying to bring our kids back to a high nutritional status...thanks to their brains starving with malabsorption, don't you think the hot dogs and bologna are a little low in nutritional value even if they are proven to be SCD safe? Guest guest
Honestly, in the beginning of the diet a lot of the highly digestible foods on SCD are not as nutritious because they are cooked well and lose much of their vitamin content. They are certainly better than the highly processed standard American diet, but that is not how my family ate before SCD or even before GFCF. For us, in order to heal the gut, we haven't been able to eat fruit and veggies in the more nutritious form (raw). Knox gelatin is hardly nutritious. At the point I'm at, I'm desperately trying to have enough foods that my kids can tolerate without my oldest son losing more weight. He finally hit 40 pounds last summer, was up to 41 when we started SCD and is now 39 lbs. He is 6 1/2 years old. He is eating too-about 1500-1700 calories a day. It's getting really tedious and boring for him. With an ASD kid so close to typical, its nice to have a relatively healthy option out there like applegate farms hotdogs. If it gives us more variety at this point in the game, he's getting it. We are all getting tired of eating pounds of cooked carrots. Guest guest
Applegate has several products. The products listed: (Organic roast beef, turkey salami, turkey bologna, organic turkey hotdogs, and organic beef stadium hot dogs) do not have maple syrup as an ingredient, some of their other products probably do though. Guest guest
Hi Sandy, http://www.applegatefarms.com/tky_dog.shtml<http://www.applegatefarms.com/tky_do\ g.shtml> You can find all the ingredients if you press the " i " icon for each product they sell. But first go to product list...when it comes up....choose what you are interested in...then go to the " i " icon...and there it is. Antoinette applegate farms Jody, I went to the site but could not see any place for ingredients. Can you tell me which of the hot dogs are legal? Guest guest
Hey Pearl, www.applegatefarms.com has over 30 products... I have found only 5 to be SCD legal... their organic spices are not illegal... the 5 meats I listed do not have syrups or sugars... Contact them, if you are feeling unsure... they are very friendly and helpful. The moderators may be able to help us find additional SCD legal deli meats and hotdogs. Agape, Pearl String wrote: , I know you have said these are legal but how can they be when they list spices as one of the ingredients? I thought " spices " are not legal because of what is added. What about the maple syrup, is it pure? Have these been declared " legal " by the moderators? Guest guest
, the mystery was solved by someone. The problem was that some of the things you listed are also deli meats and there is syrup listed for them. Thanks for listing them.
