Sandy,

My son's eczema flares with die-off and with yeast flares. Is there

anything else going on that might indicate either?

Take care,

Dear Sandy, This eczema like rash happened to our adopted daughter...I now can

see that it is related to die off. It went away when her bloated tummy

disappeared. It was like it was shedding through her skin or something. Don't

know for sure what this was about...but it vanished after a good die off! If

you are like us, this may be the case.

I am glad that we are not alone....I thought it strange too!

Antoinette mother to 18 month old with strange eczema the first month too. Now

2 plus months strict SCDiet and it is gone!

No indication of yeast... I am giving him some supps to help with die off and

yeast to prevent the flair ups due dietary changes..these are not things new to

him ..but he certainly could be having die off...and dumping as we use to do

complex carb with our other diet..He is thriving otherwise and looks great

healthier better behaved..does have moments of OCD but this isn't so

different..;-) I was curious if others have had this.. he certainly could be all

of

the above..

The skin is the largest organ of the body, and is used for detoxing -

just think of sweating - it is a way of detoxing. One of the things

I researched when starting this diet was the die-off reactions, or

the herxheimer effect. One site I came across said that as you heal,

diseases that you've had in the past are going to rear their ugly

heads as they leave, so things might get worse before they get

better. I can tell you this by experience - last June I came down

with pneumonia (I began the diet in May). Haven't had pneumonia in

years, and don't think I was exposed to anything that could have

caused it. BJ, who had tremendous ear infections every year,

according to his Mom, had maybe one since he's been with me before

the diet, but had a roaring one a month or two ago where his eardrum

burst. It's like the last hurrah for the dying bugs.

To take the hypothesis a little farther, we see die-off every so many

months, and it is pretty predictable. It must take a certain amount

of time for each group of bugs to die off, and everyone has their own

way of expressing how the bugs leave, whether it be ezcema, bad

behavior, migraines, or a flare of a past disease. You may see more

eczema flares during the " usual " times of die-off, probably being

less severe each time.

Sandy,

Since you have just switched to SCD, is there a food that he is eating

now that he did not eat on his previous diet?

No he ate all these foods before..but good question unless something is a

milder sensitivity and now with more of it ,it is filling the barrel so to

speak.. a

possibility..

This post (below) clears alot up for me about my daughter. Since SCD she has

had an ear infection (which she hasn't had for three years, but had 14

before that) and conjunctiviits, rashes, and the regular die off symtoms of

fever, lethargy, nausea. My big concern now though is that as all this die

off happens her thyroid (goiter) gets bigger and bigger and I am beginning

to think that all this toxic die off is making her Hashimotos (autoimmune

thyroid disease) worse thus making the constipation worse, thus making the

yeast worse etc I am calling her endocrinologist this morning to arrange

another blood test, but wondered if anyone else has dealt with this. This is

a little off topic but how do I protect her little thyroid during all this

dieing off?

Dear Sue,

I like your hypothesis, I agree with it! During die off/the first two months of

diet. This is what happened to our family.

a.. eczema out of know where

b.. ear infection out of no where

c.. a cold virus out of no where

d.. dizziness, nausea, head aches, flu like symptoms, irritability, rage

attacks, short tempers...so much fun.

You make a very good point about how our body detoxes! Thank you This is going

to be a " fun " year full of die off. I can now see this. Our first die off

almonst killed us. We started with goat yogurt and we all ate a bowl full!

Yikes....I now wish we had gone slower...we where so sick. I use to think it

was the casein, but now I know better....it was die off. Because the coconut

kefir caused the same thing to happen (and it is casein free)!

Plus Elaine says herself the the casein is rendered harmless when goat dairy is

turned into SCd yogurt.

Thanks, Antoinette (just two months entire family and having die off

again...just like Elaine predicted In her BTVC book )
