Guest guest
Vera, I'm wondering why you're not considering breastfeeding? Breastfeeding by a Mom who is on SCD would, generally speaking, be the safest, simplest way to go. Because the girls are only seven months, your milk supply may be reinstated VERY QUICKLY even if it seems like it has dried up. Of course you would need something else in the meantime, but a Mom on SCD is really a great thing for multiple sensitivity children! Just start nursing them every hour and your milk should come back in. You can also contact LLL for help in getting things flowing again. Bfing my son kept him off an IV when he was hospitalized at about 1 year old. I believe it was part of what kept him alive (they thought he had meningitis at the time). I had them put a bed in his room. The hospital crib went unused. He lay with me in that bed and nursed through the day and night. As I said, no IV was needed because of it... The nurses thought that was huge because any other (non-nursing) child would have had to have been on an IV drip. Until your milk comes in full force, would you not be able to sweeten the formula with things like apples, cantalope, etc.? I know that we make some VERY sweet juices here even though they contain lots of veggie juice. You would have to check with a pediatric dietician or nutritionist -- and they would probably have to be pretty specialized. I'm sorry that for some reason I'm thinking my input is not very helpful to you but I thought I would post anyway in case you thought you couldn't get your milk supply back. I hope you find an answer that will work best for your girls. Kind regards, KimS celiac family SCD 2003-2004 (and still use it a lot of the time just because we like it!)
