Guest guest
When we did the intro, we only used fresh pressed garlic. No other spices. We did this for 10 days since are intestines where KNOWN to be so damaged that we trusted no other. It was not fun doing this for so long. But we are now reaping the benifits. We killed many bad gut guys that week plus. IT is personal choice how long you want to do this. Dr. Haas and Elaine say when the diarrhea ends...but you said you have no more diarrhea. So it is up to you. Remember that what the body can not digest still can do harm. We still can not eat dry SCD cooked beans, and whole nuts, and things that are hard to digest. They cause gas and fermentation still...with KiKI diarrhea come back. And then we repopulated the gut with that wonderful 24 hour SCD yogurt and SCD acidolphilus. A yogurt of some kind will be needed. Remember that the casein is rendered harmless in a 24 hour batch of SCD yogurt. WE too where casein free...doing fine with this. YEAH!@! We also had success doing what Elaine said and using less honey cutting it down to 1/3. I wouldn't suggest cutting it completely out if you have a " skinny " problem like we did. This helped to reassure that our kids where getting enough carbohydrate. KiKI could not afford to loose anymore weight. She showed no ill signs from this. Her DIE OFF WAS STILL HUGE even with a treat of honey. We told our son (since he likes variety too) that this is what the doctor ordered. When he would complain, we had it lined up for one of my friends to talk to him on the phone, as the " doctor " , telling him that he needed to do this so his gut would heal. THis helped him to comply better. He stopped complaining because he didn't want to talk to the " doctor " . His " pot belly " is gone for the first time since he was THREE MONTHS OLD. He is no longer FERMENTING undigested food and bad gut guys! Beware of Die off, if you have it. Also remember Acitvated Charcoal works well if signs of die off come. Guest guest
What if you donot have diarrhea before the SCD, do you still need the intro diet? My kids have loose BMs, they are formed and one per day. Any views, suggestions. We have been on SCD for one month. Guest guest
Hi, my son never had diarrhea. The first time we started the diet (about a year ago), we only did the intro for about a day and adding things quickly. We saw some reactions and it was really difficult to figure out what was causing it. (we did see a lot of progress regardless. The reactions were red face and specific behavioral issues). A couple of months ago (after going off the diet a few months), we did the intro again and for real this time. He had solid poops after 3 days! I too asked the same question as you.but I would really recommend the intro for at least 2 days to give their bodies a rest. Then add foods one at a time and see how they react. You can try the diet without the intro and go back to it later if you want. Most people do go back to the intro at some point. HTH! Guest guest
My son was this way. He was lucky. His sister battled that horrible (celiac crises) diarrhea. His poops where always firm...or just thick and one a day. This is what we did. We still respected the easier to digest foods and did not feed him anything such as raw carrots, apple or fruit peels, onions, beans or nuts that would be hard to digest and continue the vicious cycle because they might sit in the gut and ferment and feed the bad guys. We still do not take no chances with hard to digest foods. We are not ready yet. We took it slow...and still are going slow. 2+ months and will not be adding the above untill 6 months out. See stages on the Pecan Bread Web site...this has been helpful to our success. We use it as a Guide line. Hope this helps, Antoinette > > > > We are going back to square one here and I wondered a couple of > things: > > > > 1. Guest guest
tara, my son also had loose BMS once per day. formed but often skinny, and on the soft side. big difference between him and his brother with the constipation, and dry hard stool. he too had an overgrowth of something and i think i had lost sight of what was a healthy normal stool. now he has formed stool with a decent width and a length of about 2 " - 7 " . now that we have been scd for 2 yrs i am seeing this consistantly. it amazes me what i didnt understand about the stool shape consistency for along time. most people talk about diarhea and constipation but there is plenty of us with kids who have something in between that is not a good solid stool (indicative of good working intestine and absorbtion). the intro diet with a slow adding of foods based on recommended phases at www.pecanbread.com is what i think all of us should do when we start the scd. the fact is that you want to clear out all the unwanted and undigested junk from the intestines before you start adding foods one at a time. that is the only way to see if the new food added is a safe digestable food for that intestine. if you add it to a mixture of undigested foods in there, it wont give you the same indication if there is a problem with a new food. donna > > What if you donot have diarrhea before the SCD, do you still need the intro diet?
