Guest guest
Hello all-- I've been out for a while--super busy. About the speech issues--my son, who just turned 8, had almost no receptive language prior to being 4 and a half (e.g., you could say, " Put this in the trash " , and he could not understand that until he was about four and a half). It did slowly develop, and he has really good receptive language now. In second grade school work, it only shows up in his reading comprehension. And it's really not that he doesn't understand what he read, it's that he doesn't understand what the question is asking. He spends about 90% of the day in a regular classroom. He has great expressive speech/language. We're very proud. Don't be hard on yourself, Antoinette (or others), for grieving the loss of that perfect child. That's natural, and it still comes in waves in our house--years after knowing the diagnosis. 's future is wide open, and yet, sometimes I'm so sad for all he's gone through, or when he cries that he's different, that I can hardly stand it. It's grief that he is still going to have a hard life, even after all he's had to endure--it's tough for me, because, like all of you, I'd give absolutely anything to change it. This diet has helped with repeating--he used to repeat lots of things, over and over--he doesn't do that anymore (unless he manages to sneak forbidden foods--which has happened three times in the four months that we've been doing this...) I hope you all have a great weekend, and fam
