That was a really inspiring post! thanks for making my Mother's Day!

My older son was 'different' from birth. He was 9 when he was

pronounced 'recovered'. So we have been around the block with

therapies and docs several times over. I remember how many times,

hope was slipping away and frustration set in. But mostly, it was

heart-breaking watching this boy suffer, just miserable in pain month

after month turning into year after year.

I remember when I first ran into these autism biomedical groups five

years ago. It was common then to hear people say,'you need to do diet

or otherwise get the child 'fixed' by 5 years old or your window of

opportunity was closed.' It was thought it was hopeless if they were

past 6 or maybe the ripe old age of 7 years old. Well my son was past

that age and apparently in the 'hopeless' category by the standards

of those feeling they were most progressive. I didn't have the option

of going back in time, so I just ignored all that. Adults learn all

the time, so where is the logic is thinking brain growth or new neuro-

pathways stop forming at 5 or 6...or even 20 or 40 years old? It

might not be as quick but it can happen.

Enzyme therapy for autism and related conditions wasn't even on the

map 5 years ago. I was one of many parent pioneers that helped

develop it. Several months after we started enzymes my son was

diagnosed 'recovered'. Enzymes were definitely not the only thing we

did, but it was one of the more significant factors.

Even if current measures aren't working, you never know what will be

discovered, or invented, next month. SCD is a more recent addition to

the autism/gut healing options. Who knows what will happen in time.

My son is now a very happy, creative, funny boy. And in some bizarre

twist of fate, he has become incredibly responsible this year, making

a real effort to get good grades because he has decided he wants to

go to college so he can get a good job (and that requires good

grades). He is 14 now. He is also picking out summer jobs to earn

money for college as well as buy items he wants. So really, you never

know what will happen in life. ;)

Happy Mother's Day, everyone.
