my allergy tests - update for Dawn and anybody else who's interested

I forgot--when will you get an answer on your allergy test? Did you

talk to Dr. R to find out if he could be prepared either way so that

you are guaranteed to " come to the other side " with the rest of us on

August 9?

Hi, Dawn -

I am having two different tests done. One, a serum test, was done last week,

and my allergist - great guy - called the lab in California this morning. The

results were negative to latex allergies. He faxed the info to Dr. R.'s

office today.

Barbara in Dr. R.'s office suggested, to be absolutely sure, that I also have

a skin test, which is being done on Wednesday. I'll be able to send those

results the same day to Dr. R.

It's my understanding that I can have the surgery whether or not I have a

latex allergy, but they must know for sure well in advance, in case they need

to prep a special latex-free operating room.

In case anyone else besides Dawn is reading this: Dr. R. postponed my

surgery on July 24th because we thought I might be allergic to latex, based

on past skin reactions to latex. While my reactions have not been severe in

the past, he could not chance my having a severe reaction during this

surgery. Latex is used extensively in surgery, and there is a good deal of

latex dust in regular operating rooms.

So, the Lord willin' and the creek don't rise (as we say in the South

sometimes), I'll be sippin' broth and juice with you on the 9th of August.

Blair--it sounds great! I can't wait to be " sippin' " with you! Are

you going to visit clinic on Tuesday? Max and I will be at the 1pm

clinic. We're still gonna do dinner Tuesday, right?
