Guest guest
Does insurance cover DAN docs? I have to admit I have been thinking of doing something like this. It is so overwhelming though. Our oldest son is a quad. I am his one and only aid. I know, I know we need to get someone else to help. Been down that road. If we could find someone that resembled sane, clean and compitent I would hire in a blink. We spend bucko bucks advertizing and .......it gets very frustrating. We made 3 major trips in 13 months last year and the last almost killed me. I am not kidding. Motel rooms that you have spent hrs and hrs getting reservations for and then you get there. Oh, that room does not have a role in shower I thought you could just transfer him to a chair in the tub. Well he is 6' and weighs 210# and we do not transfer to anything we don't have to. At any rate I just need to really pray for the Lords leading in this. We also have the whole SCD now to consider. We do ok for a day going to town or what ever but to go for 3 or 4 days...... I know many of you have done it but once again my brain is having trouble wrapping around this. I know that I need some help figuring all of this out but have not made the move to do anything major about it. I talked to my husband about backing up with SCD and doing the intro which we did not do at the beginning. Non of us have had diarea, h has always been constipated but that has gotten much better with SCD. I guess the other is the money to travel with. It takes two rooms for us and it is never in a cheap motel. Well, enough of my sob story, sorry. Sandy M. > > Hi Sandy; > > Most DAN docs will do phone consults for patients that live far away. This is what I do for my 3 yo. We only had to go for the initial consult, and now we consult every 2 weeks by phone with our DAN. Guest guest
Hi Sandy. Don't apologize for sharing your sad story. We all feel overwhelmed by life often and need an outlet. I live in NY, on Long Island, and my health insurance does cover my DAN doctor visits, but I suspect that more often than not, insurance doesn't. My insurance doen't cover the B-12 shots, but I remember a post where the shots were covered, so the moral is that some DAN docs are covered. Our DAN doc is an allergist/immunologist and participates in my plan, so visits are covered. Check your plan for this specialty and call them all to see if they are DAN doctors and ask if the visits are covered. Some plans let you go out of network and you pay some of the cost only. As for getting help for your oldest son, do you live near any hospitals or universities? You may be able to post a free ad in those places where grad students or health care workers may see them. Also, you may qualify for help from the county or state you live in. Try calling your local town or sounty government offices or social services dept. This may be free and qualified help. Also, if your insurance doesn't cover DAN docs, sometimes another plan might, so if you are in a situation where you can change your insurance plan (some employers offer this open window opportunity once a year) you may want to research if another available plan does have such coverage. Hope this helps. Good Luck. Tracey, mom of Clay, 4 Autism SCD 9 mos Re: Reaction to water in swimming pool? > > > As I said before we do not have a DAN Dr available. Guest guest
Hi Sandy; I'm sorry to hear how awful travelling is for you and your family. No Mommy should have to deal with that :-( I'm wondering if there is a DAN who would make an exception as far as having an initial consultation in office? Maybe if you call and explain your situation - what is involved for overnight travel - he/she might be willing to forgo an in person consult. I live in Canada and our health systems differ. I don't know whether DAN doc visits are covered - perhaps it depends on your personal health insurance plan? I know our visits are not covered :-( Sorry I couldn't be of more help... Guest guest
Thanks for the tips and kind words. Our children are covered under me medical insurance but it is private. They are also under T19 as they are adopted. I will have to check it out. I will check out the Drs that way. As for help with I think at this time God will have to drop someone through our roof. <SMILE> We have gone the gambit of putting up adds locally and putting adds in the paper. The worst is we live 30+ miles from any place that has a college. By the time they drove the distance it would barely pay for their gas. He does get help from the state for wages but not top wages and he/we really do not have the money to up it. God knows our need and we just keep taking it one day at a time. Be blessed Sandy M. > > > > Hi Sandy; > > > > Most DAN docs will do phone consults for patients that live far > away. This is what I do for my 3 yo. Guest guest
Do you think this is even a possiblility? I am thinking as I am typing. Even if we could do a videoconfrance. HMMM. I will have to give this some thought. I guess the next question would be what are names of good Dans. Sandy M. > > Hi Sandy; > > I'm sorry to hear how awful travelling is for you and your family. Guest guest
I don't see why an open-minded DAN doc wouldn't go along with this - just may require some calling around on your part. I don't know where you live, but I posted a link to the Autism Research Institute a few posts back that has a list of DAN docs across the States: www.autismwebsite.com/ari/index.htm. Kim.
