THank you, Eileen I thought it looked good, too. When we first started the diet BJ was diagnosed with bi-polar, but with the diet I realized it was different foods causing the mood swings. When I made chicken salad with it for him he came off the bus from school crying uncontrollably and needed to take a nap (at the age of 8). It happened twice, so we don't use it anymore. It's also made with canola oil, which is not good for you anyway. Sue B Celiac, BJ fragile X SCD 1 year

Guest guest
Sue, what is fragile X. Our son has never had an official diagnosis but some have thought possibly bipolar. We have seen great improvement with SCD. Sandy M. > > > The spectrum mayonnaise seems legal, does anyone have any bad > experience with this brand? Guest guest
I remember it has honey and you never know what " honey " as an ingredient really means since some have sugar added. , mom to
Guest guest
> > Sue, what is fragile X. Our son has never had an official diagnosis > but some have thought possibly bipolar. We have seen great > improvement with SCD. > Sandy M. Fragile X is a chromosonal disorder (like Down's Syndrome). I believe it is the most common form of mental retardation. It comes from the mother, and BJ's mother is affected, also. A fairly large number of people diagnosed with autism, especially those more affected, have fragile X. There are many similarities with autism, yet they tend to be much more social. He loves hugs and kisses and will go up to just about anybody and say, Hi! How are you? - unless of course, you ask him to. The bi-polar is not usually a part of fragile X, although ADHD is, and with a child as young as BJ sometimes it's hard to tell the difference, but we felt he had both. I got the doctor to discontinue the meds for bi-polar a few months into the diet when I was able to pinpoint the moods due to certain foods - cow yogurt for mania, spectrum mayonnaise for depression. Now that he's been on for a year, I tried the cow's yogurt again. It's been almost a week, at about 1/4 teaspoon a day, with no mania. YAY! He's talking better, stuttering less, and I'm comfortable enough to let him have a little more independence - even if he does sneak into my daughters' room to get their high heels. Guest guest
I know that Elaine would have said that she prefers people make their own mayo. In the case of Spectrum, she would specifically have warned people away from it, because it's made with canola. She had concerns about canola being genetically modified, for one thing. I personally believe Spectrum would not add sugar, and call it honey... and I think they list on the label that they do not use any GMO ingredients. So, I guess that would be up to the individual. I'll admit to having used it in the past without any problems. I trust the company, but that is a personal decision. As with any pre-made product that is " technically " not allowed on SCD, if you want to use it, be aware of any negative effects you see... and just pull it and see if things get better. That would be my advice anyway. I know Elaine would have a fit if she thought I was recommending it, though. Guest guest
Thanks everyone for your input. I have been making homemade mayonnaise for 17 months but thought I might try it since I am going to be sending my Vita blender off for repair. I don't know how long it will be gone and getting nervous. The canola oil is cold pressed so I was a little less apprehensive. (I've read nourishing traditions, I know canola is really not recommended). Thanks everyone, Eileen
Guest guest
Thank you Patti, for reminding us what works. I am glad to be reminded. We all want an easier softer way and it doesn't work when we do it this way. Canola oil is a real no no in our house. It causes a horrible rash. Plus it is not a good oil for good brain development. The honey in some things can be a Powder and this makes it illegal. The homemade tastes better anyways and has no preservatives so it is healthier. Just the littlest infraction to this SCDiet and it may not work for some of us. Heck just a tiny amount of toothpaste got my daughters diarrha back! It has illegals in it. Elaine was so right when she said " fanatical adherance " . We now even use SCD 'legal " tooth paste. Antoinette > > I know that Elaine would have said that she prefers people make their own mayo. Guest guest
just cause its hard doesn't mean it will work either in the early days when devin houston first introduced his enzymes as an option to relax the gfcf diet the anguish from the gfcf wallahs was palpable and one of the arguments was enzymes were too easy and the gfcf diet was years of sufferieng and pain and this is how it should be and they seemed to have internal discipline groups to make sure the 'faith was kept' yeah canola oil seems to have an issue i have never been able to put my finger on, but am dropping flax seed oil as having issues now to store bought mayonanses have the same issues as fruit juices, basically a composite product that the sum hides the flaws of the parts with a strong economic motivation on the part of the manufacturer to use flawed parts and doctor the difference chemically in a way that is not necessarily revealed on the label. its not a soft or hard way that people want but what is least dislocating to thier mental processes. > > > > I know that Elaine would have said that she prefers people make > their own mayo.
