You have to take the suspension liquid, not the tablet. The liquid coats your new stomach and helps to prevent ulcers. The tablet does not work, per Dr. R, because it is in the intestinal tract before it starts to dissolve. I'm not sure if there is a generic for this drug or not. Personally, I'd rather stick with the brand name, since this drug is so important in your recovery. It's not pleasant to take (you'll be glad when the 4 weeks are over, but it can be done.
