Guest guest
Hi ! I remember you from when you started. Have you always avoided cow dairy because he's had reactions to it pre-diet? I would be tempted to try cow. I am so lucky that Katera tolerates cow.... it definitely makes a nice, thick yogurt. I have made plenty of goat yogurt, too... but can't always get good milk. I honestly don't know what to tell you about the Meyenberg milk. I only used it once... and thought the yogurt was AWFUL. A friend of mine who raises goats told me that Meyenberg mixes the milk of all kinds of different breeds together... and that in fact, you never know what you're really getting (in terms of how much of which breed). I know there is a real difference in taste, fat content, etc... between different breeds of goats. So.... I guess that was no help. Short of buying your own flock of goats, I don't know what to suggest. Patti Goat milk/yogurt catastrophe! ok to go cow??? Hello all, it's been a long time, but I need help! I've been giving my son goat yogurt for the four years we've been on SCD. I used to get great goat milk at Trader Joe's, but they stopped carrying it. Now, all I can find is Meyenberg. I've been using it for the past few months with no problem. I don't like it as much, but it works ok. I've been trying to make a batch of yogurt for the past two days and I've ruined three quarts of goat milk. Everytime I try to heat them, they curdle and get disgusting before the temp even reaches 150, let alone 185. What's going on??? I'm not doing anything differently - same milk, same pan, same thermometer. Has anyone experienced this? What can I do? What does this mean about the milk? Has anyone gone from using only goat products to using cow products (yogurt and cheese)? How did it go? If you believe strongly that it will be a huge mistake for me to try giving him yogurt made from whole organic cow's milk, please let me know why. I've always felt strongly that the goat was better, but I'm about to lose it with this milk! BTW - usually gets about 1/2 cup yogurt per day in a smoothy. He also eats a little as ice cream, which I know is not giving him the probiotic. He seems to be doing fine, a couple of days without any, but I consider it a " medicine " for him - he needs it. What should I do?? Thank you so much!!! son - 7 years old, ASD, SCD 4 years (very happy, healthy kid!)
Guest guest
, I am having the exact same problem with meyenberg goat milk. I bought it from two different stores and the same problem occurred. As I heat it, it get clumpy and disgusting. I called meyenberg and they said it may be a distribution problem? I live in southern arizona. I am waiting to buy milk from a different batch number to try again. The milk giving me grief was dated June 12th so this batch should be off the shelves soon. Guest guest
I've tried, with success, all three forms of Meyenberg goat milk... my son could not tolerate organic cow's milk yougurt. Perhaps you should try the canned evaporated and/or the powdered forms ... it's very conveinent. Jody has already ok'd them, just be sure to reconstitute properly. Guest guest
Thank you, , for sharing what's happened with your Meyenburg milk. It's exactly what I've experienced and my milk was also dated June 12th. Now, I guess I just have to wait for a new batch, too - and call Meyenburg to get some of that money back??? Question for the group: Has anyone transitioned from goat to cow with or without problems? Thank you!! son - 7yo, ASD, SCD 4 years+
