I am so sorry to hear about your Mom..I almost lost my Mom about 2 years ago thanks to a faulty Morphine pump at the hospital..she overdosed and was code blue when the found her! It was a terrible time because they kept telling us for days that she probably wasn't going to make it. I couldn't imagine life without her. I lost my dad when I was 11 to Cancer too. Losing a parent is such a difficult thing when it comes way before its time. You have my deepest sympathy! Your motivation for surgery is the best one I think...it is the same as mine. I have 3 children and want to live a long time to be with them. Best of luck to you!! Holly
Guest guest
, I like most other preops wonder about things like hunger, what I am going to be able to eat and in what proportions, etc. I had asked somewhat earlier about a Smart One or Lean Cuisine - I usually have to eat two now to satisfy my hunger and I figured one would be more than plenty after surgery. Your information is good to know. It is also important to know about protein requirements - I was wondering last night how many grams of protein would we need in a day and what would that require. What do you eat for breakfast - how do things like cereal and milk sit? Instead of things like Ensure can you substitute Instant Breakfast or even Slim Fast (both of which I don't mind) and then mix in the creatine, etc.? Sorry for maybe being repititious but us pre-oppers are always thinking and I am always trying to plan what I think my new life might be. As for the hunger issues - I have already told my Weight Watcher's leader that I would like to stay with our group and she has wholeheartedly given me her blessing. As we all know - we didn't get this way in the first place only eating when we were hungry. Post-surgery I know my hunger will change but stress, etc. will still have an effect. Working through those types of issues with positive self-talk, etc. is always an issue for me and something that my Inner Circle WW group helps me with emensely. My husband is very worried about my motivation for having the surgery (I lost my mother in 12/99 due to necrotizing fascitis (flesh-eating bacteria) which started in her groin, traveled up her abdomen, lead to massive clots in her right leg which lead to pulmonary embolism, which lead to a ventilator, which lead to.......the end.) My mother was overweight (for the last 5 years or so of her life) with type 2 diabetes, hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, etc. She was 63 years old. I have a 5 year old and a 4 year old and don't want them to bury me while they are in their 20's. Thanks you guys for all the posts - they are wonderful. Holly, that must make you a little shy about the pump used after surgery. You are both right, our kiddos are a great motivation for us to get healthy and stay that way! Thanks you guys for all the posts - they are wonderful. > > (pre-opper, BMI 48) Dear , I can't think of a better motivation for losing weight and getting healthy than for yourself and for your family. I'll be 45 this year and I too have a 5 year old and a 4 year old. Living long enough to see them go to college (heck, get out of grade school!), get married, make me a grandmother... those were good enough reasons for me to have this surgery. What else is there to live for if not to be there and be healthy for your family. I used to have anxiety about leaving my children motherless when they are still so young but now I have a better chance of fulfilling my dream of seeing them grow up and my anxiety has been replaced by hope. My eating is under control for the first time in a long time. I used to eat chocolate every single day and now I never even think about it. I used to take my kids out for ice cream 4x's a week so I could eat it and now they have to ask because it doesn't even cross my mind to eat ice cream. It's like I had brain surgery!! Go for it and don't let anyone tell you your motivation for having surgery is questionable.
