Deborah,

Welcome. I'm preop, so I can't tell you much except that I'm very excited.

Hi Deborah,

My name is Suzanne and I am 2 weeks post-op. I am 50 yrs old and my

starting weight was 254. As of today, I have lost 12 lbs. My surgery

on 7/17/00 was 35 minutes long. I live in NC about 55 miles from

Durham Regional Hospital where Dr. Rutledge operates.

I would do this surgery again in a heartbeat even though the last two

weeks have been a little rough for me. I haven't had any nausua or

vomiting, but the gas pains settle in some strange places. I've

walked (which is what you should do to dissapate the gas), but I

still have one that is in the small of my back and it keeps me awake

at night. I'm still a little tired, but I am back at work and I feel

a little better each day. I think one thing you need to be prepared

for is the emotional hold that food has on you, and what it is going

to feel like to change the way you eat. Most social events revolve

around food and I think you need to take into consideration how

you're going to handle them. I'm not tempted by food when others are

eating around me, but my food selections are so limited right now

that I do feel a little like an outsider that can't totally join in

the fun. I know that will change over the next several months. I've

heard others talk about mourning food and I feel like it is something

that most of us will go through after surgery.

Where do you live? If it's anywhere near Durham, there's a support

group meeting at Durham Regional Hospital this Saturday from 2 to 4

pm. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help as you start on

this journey.
