Guest guest
DAN - " Defeat Autism Now " is an organization of medical doctors who have dedicated their practice to help heal children with autism. They have conferences twice yearly, once on the East coast and once on the West. At each conference they have nurse practitioner training and advanced trainings for general medical doctors. If you go to a conference, you will gain a wealth of knowledge and motivation to help others. We can heal our autistic kids! It is a lot of work as you all know - it takes over our lives - but the reward is worth the struggle. syd (mom of Ian, ASD, 5 yrs old) --- moeller124 <no_reply > wrote: > I don't have any resources but was wondering if you > would be > interested in moving to the Black Hills of South > Dakota. Guest guest
to be a DAN doc you have to be an MD. like Yody said, the formal training course you take it the monday after dan. they also provide mentorships and " internships' for newer docs that are not so familiar with dan and you go and work with an experienced dan doc and learn the practical aspects of it. it really does not matter the specialty if any, but you must be a licensed physician. it helps more if a pediatrician or family doc, but many neurologist and psychiatrists, gastroenterologists, allergists have become dan docs and have contributed greatly to DAN!. if you do not want to go to medical school, you can attend PA or NP school. if you are not a nurse and have a BS or some college, it is easier to become a physician's assistant. you would be able to work at a physician's office and when enough experience/competence is acquired, you have your own patients with the guidance/supervision of the dan doc. you would be a DAN practitioner even if not an MD. it is a never ending learning process... there are many medical schools or " health allied science " departments in most colleges. if you are really interested, start calling, requesting info packets with pre requisite information and all that info for PA programs. they are not very long or expensive and there is lots of financial aid, health practitioners are needed badly. if they work like medical schools, you have to apply about a year before you actually want to go in and must take examinations and other prep. get started. there is nothing more terrible in life than not looking into a dream. you can help so many people. the bottom line - self study! like most moms, learn something new every day, verify the sources, make a study plan that will help your family and, meanwhile, learn about everything that surrounds that and think how you can apply it to someone else. observation. listening. studying and research never ends for the moms or for the docs, especially the DAN ones. this is not only a very new field in medicine, it is the New Kind of Medicine and will be soon extended to all age groups and disease processes. I hope you can find a Virgil, like DANTE, to guide you in your quest for Glory! BEST OF LUCK. maria mom to fiol asd 16mo > > Hmmm...well this is a problem, not already a Dr., do you have to be a full > fledge PhD, if so this might not be an option, What are other ways I > could > get involved and help? > > > > > >Reply-To: pecanbread > >To: pecanbread > >Subject: Re: Becoming a DAN! > >Date: Thu, 13 Apr 2006 01:25:01 -0000 > > > >, > > > >If you are already a medical professional, you can attend either the > >physicians or nurses training which always takes place the Monday > >after the DAN! conferences. > > > >The most recent DAN! conference just ended 2 days ago and was in > >Washington, DC. Guest guest
Usually a DAN Doctor is an MD, DO, or ND (Naturopathic). We see a physician assistant at our DAN Dr's office. There are lots of great organizations to work with. What skills and interests do you have? What do you enjoy doing and think could be helpful? For instance, I am a grant writer for health care/public health non-profits. I have started to volunteer with the National Autism Association to write grants for them. I have also presented at 2 recent conferences on this. Guest guest
If you are a Licensed Ph.D., then your good to go. Go to the Dan website, they'll explain it all... pretty easy. You don't have to have a medical licence, it can be any health care professional licence to be a DAN!, of course you have to practice within the scope of your license. Also a big part of DAN! is research, many Ph.D.s, not only MDs, this interdiciplinary effort is one reason for the success. A psychologist, Bernard Rimland and Sid Bakker, an MD started DAN! with Jon Pangborn, a PHD biochemist researcher type. Guest guest
Re: Becoming a DAN! " What are other ways I could get involved and help? " Hi ! This is my thought. You can come live with our family (assuming that you don't already have one you are attending to) and be a great big help with cooking meals (wink, wink)! I am drowning here in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley under all the things I am trying to juggle (research, appointments, homeschooling, house maintenance, biomedical treatments, and SCD). Wouldn't it be my dream come true to have an extra pair of hands in the kitchen and an extra brain to troubleshoot yeast flares and the like. We have a little efficiency apartment in our basement, and you would be helping 3 of the most beautiful and wonderful children in the entire world to heal! I promise you would fall in love with them within 10 minutes! This offer isn't a joke . . . we could use your " involvement and help " if you wanted to make an arrangement. Guest guest
I want her :-). Agape & LOL, Knopp wrote: Re: Becoming a DAN! Guest guest
May I join the " visiting angel " list? I have a private guest room on the first floor and a small respite budget, room and board would be free!!! We are in New York. We could even get you on payroll at the local DDSO for a real paycheck and benefits as a Res-Hab provider for my daughter. any questions... Guest guest
Hey everyone! What has happened here? I leave the computer for a few hours, and ya'll are trying to snatch my good catch. I asked her first (hee hee)! But, , maybe you could start up your own business here. Train others to be live-in SCD helpers to families in need. As you can see, we are all jumping at the opportunity for someone to help us. But even if you start up this business .. . . remember that I asked you first. Everyone else can take your trainees. (wink, wink). Jeni Lynn Re: Becoming a DAN! " What are other ways I could get involved and help? " Hi ! This is my thought. Guest guest
yes, this is really something to think about, I could coordinate finding, training and placing people. Let's toss around some ideas and form this, it takes a lot of brain power to put together a buisness, I've done it before. This could really help alot of people, I like it. And everyone remember, Jeni Lynn asked me first > >Reply-To: pecanbread >To: <pecanbread > >Subject: Re: Re: Becoming a DAN! >Date: Thu, 13 Apr 2006 20:42:15 -0400 > >Hey everyone! Guest guest
Alright! I know nothing about business, but this has me excited. What about this idea? If coordinates finding and placing recruits, maybe some of us listmates could assist in the training. Ya know like SCD trainee foster parents or something (we would get extra help and the trainees would get trained). I have no idea how this could be pulled off, but that was my inspiration for the hour. , you would have to come up with some sort of program the rest of us (or the rest of you since I get personally) could follow as " trainers. " If anyone else is like me, I feel like I would need some training before I could train anyone else. I am still figuring SCD out at this point and am in no position to guide another person. This is one hurdle that would need to be overcome, but maybe it would work. In fact, if you really do come to stay with me, maybe we could work on designing this training program together? Just throwing out some random thoughts. Jeni Lynn Re: Re: Becoming a DAN! yes, this is really something to think about, I could coordinate finding, training and placing people.
