Guest guest
I everyone. After 5 months of my son having diarrhea I've finally determined that carrots, even cooked til very mushy, is causing the problem. He ate carrots and pretty much everything else he eats and much more legal foods (fruits) pre SCD and never had diarrhea. He always had 2-3 solid stools that were not well digested pre SCD. Now, if I feed him carrots he has diarrhea 6-8 times a day. It took me so long to figure it out because he ate carrots almost everyday pre SCD. Anyways, I need some help to figure out what to feed him. Right now he eats: All meats Ripe banana, pears, and avocado. Apple, peach, and apricot I haven't seen a reaction but it has been hard to know since he's had diarreha. They might be OK because other things that bother him he will eat well and then refuse for months afterward. When the diarrhea fully clears I will have to retest these fruit. Winter squashes, Zucchini (hates the texture, but will eat if hidden), small amounts of Broccoli (I'm scared to try to much at once). He has a hard time with oils. Mainly his fat if from meat and avocado. He can only tolerate olive oil, grapeseed oil, and avocado oil. I'm going to try pumpkin seed and sesame seed oil soon. I usually have him eat a couple veggie bites, then he eats his meat and then I feed him a pureed veggie usually carrots and avocado or butternut or acorn squash (since this is all I can find. Spaghetti squash is a no.) with broccoli or zucchini with some fat. With no carrots I would mainly be feeding him squash all day everyday for his carb. He has such a leaky gut (34 foods at last check) so I really want him on a rotating diet. But how? I'm really mentally stuck on giving him high carb veggies. I don't know if this is reasonable or not and if I need to let it go. Any recommendation on a high carb veggie to try or want to set me at ease about him eating low carb for a little while. With giving him 1 cup carrots, 1 cup squash, and a banana everyday is the only way he makes it to his required carbs according to fitday. And he hasn't gained an ounce even since last May! Well he lost a bunch from May to October (when we started SCD) and has been gaining it back but none the less has never been higher than what he weighed last May and he was at the 3rd percentile then. So I'm a little stuck, but I know that if he is not digesting it than a food that he could digest even in less carb would still be better. I guess I need some recommendations and a little pep talk. Thanks. Elijah 3.5 ASD (and loosing the label), leaky-gut, and faliure to thrive a 2 All SCD 5.5 months --------------------------------- New Yahoo! Messenger with Voice.
