Guest guest
Are you already a Doc? There are DAN! tapes that teach doc and nurses about autism biomedical that you can purchase from The Autism Research Institute. If you're planning to make a difference in children's lives, you may actually have to be a liscensed ped. etc. Jenn & K 10 months SCD Becoming a DAN! > I have to say, I have been on this site for a long time reading different > stories, hearing your struggles your successes, your misfortunes as parents > dealing with children with autism and related issues. Guest guest
I don't have any resources but was wondering if you would be interested in moving to the Black Hills of South Dakota. I would love to take my two to a good DANs. We would have to travel 400 miles one way to get one. Traveling for us is very difficult as I am the care giver for our adult son who is in a power chair. Travel isn't difficult, it is a nightmare. Guest guest
, If you are already a medical professional, you can attend either the physicians or nurses training which always takes place the Monday after the DAN! conferences. The most recent DAN! conference just ended 2 days ago and was in Washington, DC. The conferences last 3 days (plus the additional physicians/nurses training day). In a few weeks or so, you will be able to watch all of the presentations online (streaming video). After you watch them, you should have a good feel for whether you are still interested in becoming a DAN! practitioner. (http://www.autism.com/ari) The next conference will be in October in Seattle, WA in October. If you do decide that you are interested, I would definitely recommend attending the conference and the physicians/nurses training. We could use all the help we can get. That's for sure!! Guest guest
You have to have a current health care license (psychologist, nurse, physician, etc.) and attend a DAN! conference for heath care professionals. Guest guest
" What are other ways I could get involved and help? " You could become an RDI therapist who is supportive of the biomedical options. You'd have a waiting list a mile long within a few weeks of starting to advertise your services. Probably the first way you could make a HUGE difference would be to befriend just one family. Provide support, get to know the children and then provide some brief respite care for the family. Just having someone who understands the biomedical issues and can be trusted to feed the child appropriately... that would mean the world to many ASD families. Or you might be able to complete a degree in nutrition very quickly. You could become a DAN! nutritionist. They are highly sought as well. Guest guest
" now girls, girls don't fight there is enough of me to go around and I can travel " Wait a minute here. I get first dibs...LOL. But I can't offer the basement apartment... but I'll glady give you our bedroom. We can sleep in the living room. For some help around here, my husband would gladly take the floor...LOL. I can guarantee that my boys would just LOVE to have someone else to talk to. I hope your ears are up for it. They talk NON-STOP.
