Guest guest
Thanks Carolyn, I give it to him but he doesn't always take it? It seems like the last month or so I have had a difficult time getting him to take anything. Thanks for the reminder to keep trying though. I will start tomorrow placing them in front of him. Guest guest
Hey Carolyn, I was at that DAN Conference :-)... don't remember the speaker, but the whole fish oil story is covered in the GAPS book. Agape, crdb4532 wrote: Sandy, I heard a speaker once (can't remember the name of the speaker or his book - sorry!) at a DAN! conference (Oct, 2000) and he showed the results of a study of bipolar people, half who took fish oils and half who didn't. The results were astonishing. It was a small study but it was SO CLEAR that people with bipolar needed fish oils. Are you giving your son fish oils? If I ever remember the name of the book I'll let you know. Carolyn > > Can any of you tell me if this book would be helpful for possible > bipolar child? Guest guest
Dear Carolyn, The SCDiet ALONE will help heal the brain, which causes all these strange behavioral problems and psychological situations that have been labeled bi-polar, schiozphrenia or clinical depression. It is part of the breaking the visious cycle. It has been proven to do this. Although we to supplement with fish oils, please do not be tempted to over do the dossage. Take only what is recommended for that child for that day and no more. If you can supplement with SCD B complex vitamins and B12 nasal gel, or B12 shots this can help with the initail healing process. Research into foods that are RICH in these vitamins. This too can help the mood swings. Mostly adhere to SCDiet with " fanatical adherance " ...this is the BIGGEST KEY to healing the brain and it's nuerotransmitters! Also, many DAN! doctors are not realizing this because they do not promote the SCDiet for all their patients. THey have not seen the " cure " enough times to realize this! Guest guest
How do we know whether a brand of fish oil gel-caps are mercury contaminated or not? I need to get my soon-to-be 13 year old daughter on them. She has no development issues at all, and is not on a restricted diet - but shows other definite symptoms of EFA deficiency. Guest guest
Good question. Our DAN! told us to buy CARLSON's and Nordic Naturals. They are both garanteeing that their stuff is safe of all heavy metals and toxins. So many companies OK that there is ONLY a little...the FDA says that they are not breaking the law. So they get away with it. Pretty frightening! Our DAN! says that Zero amount of mercury is the only safe amount. Most American have this defeciency. It is very common. Hope this helps, Antoinette > > > > > > Can any of you tell me if this book would be helpful for possible > > > bipolar child? Guest guest
I just happened across something that might interest you. Page 46 of BTVC (chapter 7) bottom of the page. Does talk about the fact that a doctor years ago found that people with manic-depression didn't have the gut problems that schizophrenics do. Its difficult because the diagnosis names have changed (bi-polar/manic-depression) but also the criteria for diagnosis, so what that doctor looked at years ago may not be the same as the diagnosis today. BTVC does say that if at 3 weeks you haven't seen an improvement then its not the diet for you. Best of luck deciding on a path for your child. Oh, we also went to an ND that also recommended Carlson's or nordic naturals due to their stringent testing. Best of luck. Colby SCD 2 months celiac
Guest guest
My diagnosis has changed so many times...do they realy know what is what. Colic, turned into colitus, turned into IBS, turned into mental illness and atypical eating disorder (once thought to be, clinical depression, possilby schizophrenic...then bi-polar..then anxiety disorder), turned into GERD/IBS...and finnaly turned into malabsorption that cuased it all/atypical celiac disease....which all my doctors think caused all the above. Because today I am healing they know that it was all a huge misdiagnosis with the acception of the last two. First went GFCFSF/paleo for 1.5 years prior to starting SCD...at jump start..but nothing like the success I am having with SCDiet. This is the honest truth. So you still have HOPE that SCD will work. I wouldn't trust a doctors diagnosis ever again...full heartedly now knowing what I have experienced. SO HOLD ON TO YOUR HOPE! It takes one year to heal...somtimes two depending on the amount of damage. This comes from Elaine and Dr. Haas themself. The brain has to recover from being " starved " and as a consequence not fireing properly. Plus all the mood wings the damaged gut can cause. Also none of the pills ever worked for me. And I was a very compliant patient...this is truly upsetting. I say try this way with fanatical adherance for one year...and then wait and see. Pills are just horrible, if this is truly a case of misdiagnosis. They make the viciosuc cycle much worse...take my word for it. Contact me off serve, for more of my testimony. Antoinette Our DAN! AND GI specialists, thinks htat many Bi-polar people could truly be missed people with damaged intestines. And that some may be even on the spectrum. If this is the case they could have a damage gut. > > I just happened across something that might interest you. Page 46 of > BTVC (chapter 7) bottom of the page. Guest guest
I came across this yesterday. Mercury toxicity is not a consideration with fish oil. Mercury is WATER soluble, not fat soluble. Low fat tuna and the flesh (not fat) of other large fish contain the highest levels of mercury. Other toxins can be present in fish oils. Reputable manufacturers should be willing to provide safety standards/testing. Due to the way fish oil is processed many contaminates are removed and taking fish oil is safer than eating large amounts of fish. Farmed fish have the lowest levels of omega-3 and highest levels of ALL contaminants This is the whole page. Lots of info. http://www.krispin.com/omega3.html Sue B > > How do we know whether a brand of fish oil gel-caps are mercury > contaminated or not?
