staying about a week. My brother and sister in law Robin will also be

coming. Robin and I are both having the MGB on Monday, 7/31. Do you know

of

any fun things for my mom and my brother to do with the kids in the Durham

area? We are hoping to feel good enough by Wednesday or Thursday to take a

drive to the ocean, but I'm sure they will want to do something Monday or

Tuesday when I will mostly want to sleep. By the way, my kids are aged 5 -

14. Thanks for any ideas you might have.

Hi, Deb:

The first thing that comes to mind is the Museum of Life and Science in

Durham - it was expanded after I moved away from Durham, but it's supposed to

be incredible. The Duke University Campus is fun to bike around or roller

blade around, but I don't think you'll feel like biking much! The Duke

Gardens over on West Campus are beautiful to wander through.

The Eno River has events and festivals, and it seems like they have a main

area north of downtown Durham. The local guide to what's going on - The

Independent - can be picked up almost anywhere in Durham.

Chapel Hill has a great main street to walk up and down, and the UNC campus

is right there. It's another good place to let kids run around.

The NC Museum of Art is a short distance from Durham, over in Raleigh, and

they might have some hands on stuff for kids going on, since it's summertime.

It's a very good art museum.

And there are lots of malls and movie theatres in Durham, Raleigh and Chapel

Hill, and all three cities are easily accessible, so if all else fails...

I think the beach idea is great! We just came back from sville Beach,

and had a wonderful time. Hope you get to do that.

Again, have your husband pick up a copy of The Independent anywhere in

Durham, and there should be plenty of listings of stuff to do for kids.

Hope this helps! I wish I were going to be down there with you, but I'll be

leaving on the 30th. Oh, well.

Let me know if you need any other ideas.

Blair
