Guest guest
Hi Laurie, I just bought ground pecans at http://www.georgiapecan.com You have to call to get them and buy 30# but they were less than $3 a # with shipping. I have a local health food store that I get bulk cashews for about 3.75 a # and I buy a months worth of them to get that price. The almond flour I have gotten from http://www.nuts4u.com/asp/s- products.asp?NType=57 & Category=8 I have also gotten almond flour from http://www.digestivewellness.com/ I did not like the pecan flour that I got there though. I pretty much use which ever flour I want in what ever recipe. I like to mix the pecan and cashew in some recipes. I think that it depends on your own person likes. I don't have any experience with DCCC or the casein issues. I make goat yogart from fresh raw goat milk and use the yogart in place of the DCCC. So far it has worked. Hope this helps a little. Guest guest
Antoinette, Thanks for responding. See comments interspersed. > > We had problems with rages, tantrums, STRANGE BEHAVIOR and such...the almond flour was too high in Phenol.....thus where the name " Pecan Bread " FOR THIS LIST SERVE came from...many ASD, (the spectrum is big also including some forms of mental illness and ADD and ADHD) kids/adults can not tolerate the almond flour at first. My family is about a mess except for hubby and my oldest girl. My second, a boy has had reflux since birth, hardly eats, chronic constipation (they want to put him on meds, but I refuse),and eats enough to maybe keep a fly alive. My 5 month old girl seems to have some sort of issues, although it's hard to pinpoint. I am not vaccinating her (she got up through 2 months since it was before my son's diagnosis) and she gets some probiotics for infants and a pinch of enzymes here and there. She only has formula still. I have had heartburn since a child and seem to have on and off loose stools and stomach pains. I have also had a few gallbladder attacks here and there. Not fun!! My # 3 is the biggest motivator since he is classic autism. He is 2 1/2 and non-verbal. We lost all speech after getting 5 shots in one day last spring. He had gotten behind. He has TONS of GI issues. He has not had a formed still in about a year (maybe once in a great while, although I've learned not to get my hopes up), hiss tools are yellow with TONS of undigested food in them. His stool test showed high triglycerides, which added up since cod liver oil gives him diarrhea. He doesn't seem to absorb fats. He also has scary low IgA- so he can't fight off the yeast an dthings because there is basically no one standing guard along the walls of his intestines. Our single biggest improvement with him was when we took milk away. He is on enzymes (noticed little difference, we also started chelating, but so far have seen little with that, although it's only round 3. I am really thinking a lot of his break throughs may come through diet. I pray I am right. I am getting depressed since we have been working so hard for months and have seen nothing since the initial milk intervention. That was a long time ago and it starts to wear on you. > > > > I process (in food processor) my own pecan flour by buying the pecans by the bulk at Costco or Sams Club....many do this on the list...saves lots of > money! But I like to rotate our nut flour....not good to eat the same kind day in and day out, when you have sensitivity issues and a leaky healing gut. So with nuts whole, am I looking for the package to say " raw " or what? I happen to have some walnuts, not roasted out of the shell that I bought at our price club. Will those work? Also, what nuts are highest in phenols? I heard almond, but what else besides pecan is a good idea. My son takes no-fenol and has had a few issues there, but not bad. > > Coconut makes a delicious flour too...very affordable! Can buy it already made or process it your self in food processor. We love coconut! Yummy! Does that interchange also in breads and things? > > > About the casein...there are many of us here who are dairy free....you can do SCD and be healthy and eat well without the dairy. DRY CURD/cow, did not work in this house...bad behavioral consequences! I personally do not trust ghee, I don't think they can possibly get all the casein out of it. So what do you do in the recipes calling for ghee or DCCC? I have seen many. Can you sub yogurt in there or what? > > People are making nut yogurts and coconut yogurt so that you can still get the benefits of the probiotics in the yogurt....plus have a new " treat " . I have read about the nut yogurts. You can do yogurt from coconut milk too right? > I have been told that some of these sensitivities we " heal " out of...that six to nine months into diet we will very well be able to tolerate the casein again! I pray that's true because I know he is missing some dairy. Poor guy. > > For the " die off " (when bad gut guys start starving to death in the gut) before it happens have activated charcoal capsules handy and Epson salt for soaks in the tub....you may need it...die off feels like the flu...some get it bad...some don't seem to get it at all! Stick close and we will help you through it regardless! Been down that road after we started seeing Dr. Megson. It was a pretty good battle for about a month. I think we have the worst of it under control, but I am hoping to see more with the diet. Thanks again, Laurie >
Guest guest
Sorry that some answers are slow in coming. I was out of town Thursday through Sunday and then again all day today. Sheila has been sick since mid-March... I would not use DCCC or dairy for a child who is currently casein free. Most nut flours can be used interchangeably. Cashew flour tends to be an exception to that and it is also more difficult to digest and should be used later than the others anyway. It depends on what type of processor you have whether you can grind nuts in to flour. With a Vitamix, you'll have no trouble. With a run of the mill, inexpensive food processor, it is unlikely that you will be able to process anything into a flour (with the possible exception of pecans and walnuts).
