Guest guest
" We cannot seem to get rid of that nasty stuff. Every time our son goes off of one antifungal it is only a matter of time before he will need to go on another to help fight the yeasty beasties. That yeast causes a slow regression back to his old behaviors of poor eye contact, oppositional behavior, not able to adjust to new situations, not being interested in toys, night terrors and yucky stools. " HI Kim - This sounds exactly like our little guy! SCD has " solved " a lot of digestive probs for Cameron, but yeast creeps up on us every time! I just started some GSE drops this week and not sure about whether it's doing anything - diflucan works like a charm, but results wear off quick, it costs too much, plus it wipes out all the other good gut flora. Just curious about your " yeast protocol? " Thanks, Lynn - Mommy to Cameron 3.9 (ASD) and Mia Jean (20 months) and now DH (who complained continually about missing bread until just last week - sheesh!)all SCD! Please > advise, as I am about to go through round number 2 of diflucan!! As far as I know that is true. Diflucan and any prescription anti- fungal knocks all it can out within a 10 block radius. If you really need it to control yeast (we have, but are hopeful SCD may help with that)it would be good to follow your doses with yogurt and / or probioitics to help put some good bugs back in there. Some will argue that until you stop the anti-fungals putting good bugs back in is a waste, but I would respectfully disagree since our level of probioitics (don't do yogurt yet) is directly related to how much yeast we have. > > > >Just curious about your " yeast protocol? " As far as I know GSE does the same as RX anti-fungals. I had it described to me as similar to a carpet bomb going off in your gut. We use it and it has been VERY effective. Shows you how sick our kids are, even with RX anti-fungals the yeast was beating us before GSE. We do GSE with no-fenol and candex on an empty stomach in the AM and PM and if it's bad I do GSE with no-fenol at lunchtime too. I have experiemented with the drops. I never went over 5, but some do. I know with anti-virals we had to do 5. It works well for us, but I know for some it doesn't. There are many other things that work well for others. I give probiotics (again not doing yogurt yet) with it. It still seems effective, even though in theory they should be killed by the GSE. As I said, when I don't give the probioitics- bad news. Guest guest
Diflucan is an anti-FUNGAL. It does not kill beneficial bacteria (or any type of bacteria for that matter). GSE has conflicting reports as to whether it kills the good along with the bad. Jody mom to -7 and -9 SCD 1/

I was misinformed then! I was told to up probiotics when dosing. Another ASD mom also told me that Diflucan is bad for the liver (DAN! said this too), so we started looking - AND STILL LOOKING - for an alternative. Diflucan also contains lactose and other illegals (in the white pill form), but can be compounded as Fluconazole with steviacide. Still trying out the GSE - day 4 with drops... " Well, the increase in probiotics is to fill in the " empty spaces " that the dying yeast creates... or so I thought... to prevent any pathogenic bacteria from multiplying to fill in the " empty space " . Diflucan can be hard on the liver. Usually liver enzymes are tested before and during the treatment if it is going to be given for a long period of time. Alternative- the best I've heard is to use raw garlic. But it is difficult to get a child to swallow raw garlic. Guest guest
" Nystatin " It's my understanding that Nystatin tends to not work well long-term against yeast. The yeast mutate and become resistant. I'd try raw garlic. Jody mom to -7 and -9 SCD 1/

The yeast mutate and become resistant. Nystatin is safe long term. Some kids are on it for YEARS. I have also heard though that long term it is not as effective, although it seems that even though they must get resistant it must do something, because I hear constant complaints about other parents whose kids went off of it and yeast was back with a vengeance. Guest guest
It is really not scientifically plausible for an anti-fungal to kill anything besides yeast. That is the definition of an anti-fungal. There are some things that kill both yeast and bacteria. Those things are both anti-fungal and anti-bacterial in nature. But to my knowledge, Diflucan is PURELY an anti-fungal and will not do anything to the bacteria in the gut. Guest guest
And to add to what I just posted, the DAN! doctors treat simultaneously with prescription (or natural) anti-fungals and antiantibiotics so that the bacteria does not overgrow while the yeast is dying. Diflucan does not kill bacteria (good or pathogenic). Jody mom to -7 and -9 SCD 1/
Guest guest
Earlier was mentioned garlic, Here is a thought. Does your child like olives? I have a daughter who loves olives. One day all I had in the house was garlic stuffed olives and she now loves them too. Just a thought.... . still waiting for my copy of the book.... > > And to add to what I just posted, the DAN! doctors treat > simultaneously with prescription (or natural) anti-fungals and > antiantibiotics so that the bacteria does not overgrow while the yeast > is dying. > > Diflucan does not kill bacteria (good or pathogenic). > > > Jody > mom to -7 and -9 > SCD 1/03 >
