Guest guest
Dear Carl, I enjoyed her research and didn't doubt her at all because if I had her resources I would do the same thing. We are all after the same goal, to have the safest most effective surgery. Just the fact that we can have this open discussion means a lot to me. Do you realize how hard it is to get the facts about other surgeons and their patients? I personally called a surgeon who does the lap RNY {of course you can't have direct dialogue with the surgeon}. I wanted a few names of people in my area I could talk to who had the surgery, but I didn't get any, just the runaround. I guess I believe that the more access to patients the more confidence the surgeon has of his procedure. I am finishing my packet and can't believe that yesterday I said the patient letter would be a piece of cake! If it were an oral report it would be a piece of cake because I know all the information and could tell it to someone, but I haven't had to write a paper since collage and it is not as easy as I thought. Your wife and have a way with the written word that is great. Keep the information flowing! Thank You Marjory

I thought your wife's post was great. I can't even begin to imagine all of the time and research that she put into it. I thought it was very informative, we as a group want to know and have all the knowledge that we can, that is how we can make an informed decision by having all the facts and data that we can accumulate. I 100% believe that this is life saving surgery, but it is still major surgery with all the risks, so Laurie I thank you for your time and trouble and if I did not welcome you to the group I'm sorry, I've been feeling a little sorry for myself for a few weeks because of Insurance approval problems and have not been posting often. Sooooooooooo Welcome!!!!!!!!! Cathy in Lenoir, NC Pre-op BMI 42 A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step

Laurie didn't tell me people were questioning her authenticity. I'll write it off though, since it appears you all have been burned before. She is new here, and she is mind bogglingly sensitive, prays for you all, and loves this site. FYI, she has access to doctors because her father has been teaching anatomy at the OSU Med School for 30+ years, an was such a popular teacher that they give awards to other teachers named after him. Ask an OSU med school grad what they think of Dr. . He also has been doing research on spinal cord regeneration as a neuroscientist through most of his career. Thus the contacts, thus the mentality to research. As much as she's very different from him, she's much like him too. >> Hi Dale, Please keep in mind that one person does not a group make!! Just like one " bad doctor " does not make all " MGB skeptical doctors " bad. This list is made up of hundreds of people, all with their own views, ideas, and perceptions. None of us can control what another of us will say or feel, and I'm glad that is the case. When I was a fat kid growing up, there were people (mostly boys) who called me all kinds of vile things, but ya' know what? I never believed them for one minute, and I developed a tough shell that has helped me through many more serious crises in my life. I wish all the best for Laurie and hope she gets WLS if that is what she wants. I, for one, am right here in the MGB line, because I am convinced that it is the best route for me. You are to be commended for being a caring and concerned husband who looks at things from all angles. This is her LIFE, afterall, and you obviously love her very much.
