Guest guest
Hi a, All I can tell you is to do as much of what Dr. R recommends as you can. Some of us have had new tummys that were more temperamental than others. I got lucky....I have not had any problems with throwing up. I also went against recommendations and started adding " real " food to my diet because I couldn't tolerate the fruit juices. They were entirely too sweet. At three days I had Mac & Cheese...at four days I had grits...at six days I had Lasagna. I must say that I had some discomfort when I ate and I only ate a couple of bites. The thing I ate most was watermelon, from the first week on.......I have had a large variety of foods but in small quantities.....1/4 cheeseburger, 1/2 sandwich, salad, steak, pork chops, pork ribs, meatloaf, smothered steak, pot roast, tuna salad, pasta salad, potatoe salad, macaroni salad, beans, enchiladas, guacamole, fajitas, nachos, tacos, stew, fresh veggies like squash-green beans-new potatoes-cabbage-corn on the cob-broccolli-carrotts-okra and fresh fruits. I have not deprived myself and because of this I usually don't want much to eat. I have discovered that I need to keep my grams of sugar in the low 20s to the teens or less. For example: I can eat a Blue Bell mini ice cream sandwich and only get 8 grams of sugar, 1.5 grams of protein, some calcium, 3.5 fat grams and it does not make me sick. If I eat something that my body doesn't like....I usually know it very quickly. Like an idiot I tried birthday cake and ice cream and started feeling bad within about five minutes. My pulse got very hard and rapid and I could feel it in my throat just pounding away. Even though this is a part of " dumping " I never felt like throwing up. It went away within about 30 minutes. When I first started eating I would make sure to lie down for a few minutes afterwards until that yucky feeling would go away. I think that since I am the rebel in the group I went through this phase earlier than those that waited to eat and now they are experiencing the yucks. I have a suspicion that I will be losing 2-3 pounds a week for a while. That is fine with me because I'm not suffering and slower loss means a better chance of saving my hair and skin. I'm healthier now than I've been in a long time and I'm happy with that. I need to incorporate a structured exercise plan into my day but right now I just don't have the necessary motivation to get it going. My lack of energy from my pre-existing depression is not cooperating. I don't know how to answer your question other than.....every one is different, don't measure your weight loss against others. Try your hardest to do what Dr. R says. When I was at clinic and he told us about one MGBer that ate babyback ribs the day after surgery and has since lost 170 lbs, that was all I needed to hear. Plus the fact that the body heals over the titanium staples in 5-7 days after surgery. That took away my fear of causing a leak from eating. From that point on it has been an adventure.....and a very successful one for me so far. We'll see how long it takes to get the next thirty pounds off. I have problems tolerating food period. I have never overeaten because I really have no desire to. Food has lost it's appeal. It's a struggle to get food down period. I have a sick stomach after eating on most occasions. I think some people can eat more...and some eat less. Believe me...your tummy will tell you if you do something it doesn't like. I am still looking for combinations that work. I sip on something all day long. So, I know I have probably confused you more, but that's my take. le six weeks post op

I think it will pass, but if it doesn't I can live with it. I am never sick the whole day, but sporadically throughout the day, I am queasy. My energy if " OFF THE ROOF " . I am surprised because some days I don't get 50 calories in. And I exercise like a maniac...75 minutes of aerobics exercise a day. I am always hyped. I may be in the minority with this temperamental tummy. I was sick right after surgery until the gave me a shot to Zofran. Other posts ops say it does get better. But its okay, because feeling this way, I am NEVER tempted to eat BAD stuff. Feel free to ask me anything you need answered. le seven seeks post op on Monday. Guest guest
le, This is Terri again. I always enjoy your posts as they seem to be on target to all of my concerns or questions. With your continuous " sick stomach " do you regret having the surgery? Or is this something that you can live with? Or is this something that you feel will pass? How is your overall energy level and health? I'm apologize for asking so many questions but I would rather know the " bad " with all the " good " post. Thanks for all your help. Or is this something that > you > can live with? Or is this something that you feel will pass? For me, it's been part of learning how to eat. If you eat too much, you get a sick stomach (I throw up sometimes, too). If you eat too fast, same thing. Some foods just cause the " sick stomach " feeling and it is nearly always foods I can live without -- heavy fat, some meats, Fritos, fried foods. I see it as a blessing -- it's made me learn to appreciate the foods I do eat, eat more slowly, and avoid foods that I can't tolerate well. At six weeks, it seemed like that was a lot of foods, but I've expanded my food selection since then and it isn't nearly as limited as I had thought. My energy level and health are fine. I feel really good. Kind regards, How is > your > overall energy level and health?
