I say this to add: IN this house we would considered this a RED FLAG! YOU MAY WANT TO JUST STICK TO THE GOAT YOGURT (goat proteins are easier to digest with enzymes).....and take the other stuff (cheese and dry curd) out until she heals for a while...especially if she is having neurological symptoms such as irritability....easy crying.....cravings.....tiredness.....tantrums....problems sleeping...and such....I know you probably do not want to hear this.....we just discovered from personal experience that people/kids with a problem/sensitivity/allergy/intolerance to dairy CRAVE THE STUFF WITH A VENGEANCE when we take it out! Supplement with Calcium and watch this symptoms NOT GO AWAY (this is not about calcium)...she may be addicted like we where. When the gut is so damaged that these proteins get through and leak into the blood stream and get into the brain...they can become VERY Very ADDICTIVE behaviors and ASD consequences. Could somebody with " time " explain this phenomena.... Enzymes help...so that we can still get this wonderful SCD yogurt that heals the gut.....in moderation...and not " binging " on the stuff...and ONLY with enzymes...we don't get that " addicted " to the stuff....we plan on adding the cheeses in six or nine months (SLOWLY).....especially in light of her showing signs of this sensitivity/addiction problem.....that definitely causes our mental problems to become worse! said: Elaine used to say how surprised she was that only in autism where people so scared of dairy (casein). The issue of gut health in autism is a moving target, so the casein issue was one of those issues in flux. Alot of what was thought to be true (i.e. casein is poison and no autistic person should be within 20 miles of it) have been proven false. There are now lots of experiences where a person with autism did much better with casein in the diet than not. Each person is different. There were lots of posts in the beginning of this group on how the yogurt was healing, just as adding in digestive enzymes and probitics are healing (no duh there...the special yogurt contains live probiotic cultures and enzymes along with minerals and other healing factors). I add: I PERSONALLY FEEL THAT ENZYMES ARE THE SECRET HERE in our family....and a MUST in this house! Otherwise we get this strange addictive behavior (obsession with dairy foods...causing very strong cravings (not related to calcium...believe me!)...which is not always pleasant....and then if we eat it without enzymes...we act GOOFY....tantrums, rage attacks....irritable at the least....foggy mind...can't concentrate or focus.....can't sleep...night terrors...night mares....in KiKi our 22 mo. daughter seizures(obviously not all have seizures though)......ASD stuff! also said: It's interesting to note also that many people with autism who had problems with casein/dairy in general did not with the special yogurt. Actually, they were thriving on the yogurt. And there were those on SCD that added digestive enzymes to see a jump in improvement. There is a parallel here. Soooo, if you haven't tried the SCD yogurt, that's something to consider. It's a whole-food source of nourishment. If you are nervous of the casein, consider an enzyme with DPP IV in it. There are quite a few available which work just fine, and there are about a half dozen more coming out this year. I continue: So there you have it...my opinion for what it is worth...hope you see results soon...she may have to go thought " Withdrawal " first...if you do this...stay close to the serve....hot baths with Epson salt comfort much when she starts the DETOX (need lots of love and understanding...she will beg for the old foods! " JUST SAY NO " ...with love)...also get activated charcoal capsules...they helped me tons....when the detox/die off started! HANG IN THERE! DON'T GIVE UP! We look forward to the problem in our guts healing so that some day, like Elaine says...only when ready we can slowly reintroduce some of these treats that use to make our brains and guts so sick. I trust that all these testimonies are not lying to us! WE WILL EAT AGAIN...much more than what we are limited to now....already seeing so much improvement! A few weeks ago I couldn't eat raw vegetables...now I can....we all are healing...and the list of foods we eat slowly grows......not shrink....as you may fear.... Sincerely, Antoinette (day 42 entire family SCD/Celiac, Leaky Gut, multiple sensitivity/allergy and addiction to some foods because of it (dairy, corn in particular) ....ADD,ADHD,ASD ...finally over the hump! and healing! Guest guest
I agree, there are certain foods, dairy/grains being the main offenders that actually have opiate type componds, when not properly absorbed these opiate compounds signale the brian, much like an addictive drug. Guest guest
I didn't get the impression that the child discussed was on the Autism spectrum. Please keep in mind that not all of the members of this list have kids on the ASD spectrum. Jody mom to -7 and -9 SCD 1/
Guest guest
That's true, she's not autistic - she has Crohn's/UC. I'm going to try going off of the farmer's cheese today anyway just to see if it makes a difference. The problem is she keeps wanting more food! I give her breakfast and she wants more, but I'm trying to limit so many foods. I'm going to try to push the meat today, but she's so sick of it. Thanks for all the advice. Guest guest
I'm not all that familiar with Farmer's Cheese, but I do know that some Farmer's cheese is not DCCC. Perhaps removing it will be a good idea. But I would go ahead and start giving her some other food. Ripe bananas, avocados, squash, green beans, applesauce (homemade), etc. Does she like gelatin? Maybe you could make some with her today and make the knox blox recipe. If you clear off a shelf in your fridge, you can make it on a cookie sheet and then let her use cookie cutters on it and eat the shapes. Banana pancakes, chicken pancakes dipped in honey, sneaky veggie pancakes. Make a few things that are easy to digest. Are you giving her yogurt yet? Guest guest
Actually, it was me who brainstormed the use of enzymes for the parent who has yet to see results for her 7yo daughter ... she said her daughter reported that her " body was aching for cheddar cheese " . This child will see results yet. Guest guest
Hi Jody, I've been to the the Friendship Farmer's Cheese (DCCC) website and they mention their cheese being used for the scdiet specifically. I've dropped it for today however. We made gelatin the other day and she's had some of it. I had started the yogurt, apparently too soon and was wondering if that was the problem, but it's hard to say. I dropped that too. She's had mostly meat today, but she did have banana pancakes this morning. She's actually going now for the first time in 12 hours (she was up last night again). She's been getting angry with me because she's hungry and doesn't want " jello " or meat! Poor kid. How soon did you see results with your children?
