Guest guest
Dear and to all it may concern, Dr. Houston also agreed with Elaine and our GI specialist, saying that once our intestines heal from erosion and celiac disease that we will possibly NOT NEED THE HELP OF ENZYMES. Especially since our pancreatic functions are normal. Again, He said NOT TO USE THE PROTEASE, if you have known erosion or pain when trying it! Not to go Low-n-slow....TO NOT USE IT until the gut heals! IF it is even needed. He said eating a strict SCDIET that many autistic kids DO NOT NEED ENZYMES, that they only need them if they are eating the GFCFSF diets...or cheating or have made an accident in their SCDiet. I hope that everyone is reading their BTVC books about how Elaine thought ALL autistic kids had undiagnosed celiac or malabsorption....being caused by erosion and damaged INJURED intestines. *******Elaine is the one NOT ME, who feared using protease!!! That it should not be using PROTEASE until their guts heal....if ever. You see the very nature of the SCDIET makes everything a monosaccharide, therefore ready for absorption from the intestines. The only enzyme that may be needed in the beginning is LIPASE. The amylase is even a waste of money...if you are eating a strict SCDIET...since all the starch is removed! *******Therefore these expensive enzymes are a waste of money and can cause pain and diarrhea.....since they have protease, amylase and things in them that ELAINE did not promote. After this post I am resigning from pecan bread for a while. To heal Elaine's way and BTVC way....and not this DAN! protocol way or enzyme way. THANK GOD I QUESTIONED THIS GOAT YOGURT< ENZYME THING! (that caused us pain!) For those who want to know when it came to helping our autistic kids Elaine did not like: a.. Expensive DAN! tests. b.. The use of enzymes c.. Cheating or not using Fanatical Adherence d.. Chelation Therapies (she saw many children back slide that where having success with ONLY the SCDiet...this broke her heart!) e.. NOT Using the GOAT YOGURT because of uncalled for fear of casein that is rendered harmless in a batch of 24 hour SCD yogurt! You see for those that are looking for the " magic bullet " the yogurt is it! AND SHE KNEW IT...many autistic kids have gotten better if not lost their diagnosis using the goat yogurt! KEEP IT SIMPLE AND DO WHAT IS PROVEN TO WORK....let go of all those fears and go for it like we did....and it is paying off! SAVE your money, don't do the expensive tests .....when you heal the SCD way ELAINE said you won't need the results anyway! With the casein rendered harmless and safe to use in the 24 hour SCD goat yogurt we are seeing REMARKABLE RESULTS IN THE LAST 48 hours in KIKI! AND she is eating bowls full and after the initial good die off (that needed activated charcoal and soaks in Epson Salt tub), is acting like a different girl! WE ARE GETTING OUR KIKI back without all these expensive interventions Elaine's way. GOD BLESS YOU ALL WHO ARE DOING IT DIFFERENTLY. So don't fight or dispute with me any more...fight with Elaine...if you could. I resign for now! THE MESSENGER IS TIRED OF BEING SHOT! If anybody wants to contact me please do it off serve. ajbunce@... Sincerely Antoinette Re: Dr. Houston/protease >>>>He suggested that if it is causing burning and pain that we do not use the protease for now. Yes, this is what is outlined in the Great Low-n-Slow Method. Don't do lots of proteases right off. >>>> He also said that we may not want to mess with the enzymes if you are on a strict SCDiet. That is always an option....there are many alternative ways to do something. That is one. Since HNI is a supplement vendor, the company is really in a position to comment on their own products...not other company's products. If they feel their own products are not needed or would be helpful, that's fine. >>>>That some take enzymes just to aid digestion, that we may want to try them later after we heal, since all of his have protease in them. I don't believe No-Fenol (HNI product) has proteases in it. It is not on the label. A list of enzymes without proteases or very teen tiny amounts which can be used for overall food digestion is given below my signature. >>> Very interesting in light of the LISTS discussion about protease safety. I don't see this as a contradiction. It continues to support the 'low- n-slow' approach and that of SCD (intro first, yogurt later started in gradual amounts). >>>Moral of story: Elaine was right again. If you have erosive colitis or advanced celiac disease, protease may not be your digestive enzyme of choice. As I said before, I had some very good conversations over the years with Elaine on the topic of enzymes. She was definitely not against enzymes, or proteases, from my experience. If you have had personal contact with her that pointed otherwise, please let me know. However, I am rather uncomfortable discussing what Elaine said and meant, and using her name, when she is not around any more to comment personally. And yes, proteases may not be what you want to do initially...or even at all. This is outlined in the Low-n-Slow and SCD starter programs. I don't see a disagreement here. It's also okay to just not want to do something without having an iron-clad reason why it is harmful. I don't do many supplements or programs others do, but it doesn't mean there is something really aweful or harmful about them. Best wishes to you and Kiki...and fast gut healing. . ============================= Enzyme products you could use for general food digestion without proteases, here are some with the manufacturer given in parenthesis: 1. AcidSoothe (Enzymedica) - no proteases, soothes injust guts or acid stomach, does contain some herbs so check if the herbs are suitable for you (I'm pretty sure the the herbs are not okay on SCD). Contains papaya leaf which I understand is used as an herb here and not as protease extract. Candex (Pure Essence, US version without proteases) - I realize this is marketed for yeast but it can work as a broad-spectrum product (however probably not that robust a one, which you may want in the beginning)Link at iherb: http://www.papanature.com/store/ProductDetails.aspx?c=Herbs & pid=PUR-<http://www.\ papanature.com/store/ProductDetails.aspx?c=Herbs & pid=PUR-> 00902 3. GastricEase (Wellzymes, Enzymes Inc) - this has herbs and a teeny tiny miniscule amount of proteases. Link: http://www.buyenzymes.com/t-<http://www.buyenzymes.com/t-> wzgastricease.aspx 4. Carb Digest (Kirkman) - Link: http://www.kirkmanlabs.com/products/enzymes/enzym_dppiv/CarbDigest_Iso<http://ww\ w.kirkmanlabs.com/products/enzymes/enzym_dppiv/CarbDigest_Iso> gest.html 5. Phenol Assist (Kirkman) - marketed for phenols, but contains a variety of enzymes that may work for broad-spectrum on foods including amylases. Link: http://www.kirkmanlabs.com/products/enzymes/phenol/phenol_bp835.html<http://www.\ kirkmanlabs.com/products/enzymes/phenol/phenol_bp835.html> NOTE: Pancreatin and pancreatic enzymes do contain a set ratio of proteases. NOTE 2: Although Lacto (Enzymedica) has a very very low amount of proteases (relative to the million units most products have), this one has worked exceedingly well for sensitive guts. Please let me know what you end up trying and how it works out.
